DCT is great & the best - however I don't believe it will ever replace that manual feel of changing up and down.
If BMW would have software as on its bikes to allow clutchless upshifts, and a logic to adjust rpm's on downshifts (i'm no good in heel/toe) I would way prefer manuals in future too. |

Not knowing how you roll, I prefer manual because I am a control freak. I drive in the second heaviest rush hour traffic in the country here in the DC metro area and have had no issues with clutch. That keeps me from talking on my cell phone because my hands are occupied...and most of the time, I am coasting in neutral or throttling in second or third gear, so you save on brake pad life...stop and go traffic allows me to practice my clutch coordination for smoother gear shifting transitions...hahaha If I just want to cruise, I drive my wife's automatic, although her Mercedes E350 4Matic is no slouch, either. But for everything else, manual can't be beat. You will notice that your left leg will become massively sinewy, stronger and bigger, tho...LOL...not really... In the snow, I can control my vehicle much better with a manual. No need for xdrive....I am the xdriver...with winters and a Quaife diff (yo positraction!), and you know the M3 has LSD!!! It's all about control...I shift when I want, whenever I want, depending upon the situation. It is totally involving and exhilirating. That's why I didn't get iDrive...I wanted a driver's car, with no distractions, except for some tunes. So, if you are like me, you will love a manual transmission car. It is no nonsense and you have to stay alert, which is why I love to drive everywhere. Oh yeah, I love my e90. I don't have to get out of my seat to let anybody in the back. You can't go wrong with a manual, man.

yes DCT is fastest. But it still can't see ahead like a driver can, and can't select best gear going forward. DCT might have it right most of the time, but not all the time. There's no motorbikes, and no racing cars with DCT (or RFT..)
