Tattoos.. whats the big deal?

So I had an Ice hockey game last night and a guy on my team brought his gf and some of her friends. I tool a liking to one so after the game I changed and started talking to her. We talked for about 20 mins and I was about to put my sweatshirt on when I lifted my arm and she saw I had a half sleeve, she saw it and was like "oh your one of those white trash guys huh" and said she had to go and would give me her # (bitch) WTF is the big deal about tattoos? At least all the tattoos I have hold some kind of meaning and have a place for them.

i, for one, think tattoos are tacky and a need for attention but thats my opinion. girls its different, if they look good. guys i duno, just think they are pointless unless you have something that has meaning behind it not a barb wire arm or something stupid like that.

i LOL at all the little "gangstas" in my hs that went and got full sleve tattoos to show loyalty to their cliques and now none of them even talk anymore

i have most of my back done
& 1/2 of my left leg is done.
if i dont go broke w/mods ill be getting tatted up again this spring.

i love tats. i don't have a single one. not sure if i could ever commit to anything that much but it seems like you're guaranteed at least some sort of reaction when you have them...whether it's good or bad they always provoke someone's opinion it seems.

i do have to say that 90% of the tattoos i've seen are completely retarded. the rest make me wish i had the gusto to do that to myself.

that being said: some tats do make people look trashy. flames, skulls, naked chicks, snakes, dice, tribal etc. can go all wrong. but some of the best i've ever seen had all of that shit in it so i guess it's not those tattoos per se but how it was done

I have a few tattoo's, all can easily be covered by a T-shirt and all have a specific meaning to me. My view is that tattoo's are usually a self-expression of the individual and shouldn't detract from the person.

That being said, there are plenty of "trashy" tattoos out there and usually represent the person wearing them truly.

We could have the same discussion about piercing's, "brands", "body modifications", etc.. My feeling is, just as long as it doesn't doesn't affect me personally then who am I to judge.

anyway, the thing about tattoos is... quite frankly.. .theyre awesome, i love em, have some.... and people dont realize that just because your tatted up doesnt mean your a bad person. however, in my opinion, it is because of those shitty death satanic metal metal bands, emo people with the long black hair in front of their face, ears stretched lookin like theyre in a swahili tribe, and just the overall scene like that. people tend to associate you with that scene since there are alot of negative things about that scene, such as violence, satan, etc lol. its upsetting that society will look down on you and judge you in 5 seconds based on your appearance but hey man, thats shitty NY for ya. i mean common especially LI, you know theyre gonna hate man.. just do ya thang, whatever makes you happy... fuck the haters

I've never once shown anyone mine who didn't appreciate it's meaning and thought it was trashy.

trashy tattoo's are trashy. It depends on what the owner wanted out of it. I personally have a full tribal sleeve. Most would say thats retarded, but I had it done while in differnt parts of the world, Japan, Portugal, etc.. I have another sleeve planned for the other side with even more meaning. but i also have some that i regret, but a dumb skank that stereotypes you just for having one? is well, a dumb skank. Whats the stereotype anyway? 65% of the population has a tattoo of some sort anyway.
