Thanksgiving for real...

I was shopping at the local Fred Meyer for some last minute items for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. And as I was standing in the isle trying to figure out what beer to buy, a very old man walked by and I said hello.

Well… after a few paces past me, he turned around and asked me for 50 cents to get another tall one (Beer). He already had 2 clutched in his hands. As he looked into my eyes with his gray blue eyes and deeply creased face and I noticed he was Native American.

I couldn’t get my money out fast enough. I thought to myself, we’re all hustling and bustling around here for our own families and we celebrate Thanksgivings because your race gave to the pilgrims when they first came to America.

I gave him plenty more than 50 cents and he thanked me graciously as he went on his way.

What a surreal moment that was.

Honestly, I was in a trance for about 30 seconds after that… thinking to myself how far we’ve come as a country and how things have changed so much.

And how much we all have to be thankful for. Just thought I’d share. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

How would I know the beer he was buying was for himself. Maybe it was for a friend or family member.

Just like me, I was buying beer for my brother and wine for my family tomorrow. I didn't say he was a transient.

My point is... He just disappeared. As I looked up after putting my wallet away, I should have seen him walking down the isle. But he was gone in a flash. I didn't see him coming and I didn't see him go.
