Help on helmet for track days.

In before the perverts & deviants the helmet you wear on your head.

Booked a couple of track days and need to sort out a helmet, would the guys who do this sort of thing regular recommend open or full face? Any recommendations on which to go for?

And in again, no head my is normal average size, thank you!

You could just get an OMP open face trackday helmet. About £70 from demon tweeks.

I'd personally definitely recommend open face unless your told it HAS to be closed. You don't overheat that way, and its not in your peripheral vision. I found full face helmets very distracting when I was trying them out.

Thats the FIA approved blue sticker one. Do you need that? Do you have a race license?

Otherwise the one I'm referring to is more or less identical except 170 cheaper

Yeh but KadesDad wants to look the fackin' nuts with his sparco gear on and his M-tree get me...

I'd buy the OMP and spend the rest on petrol.

How much is your head worth at the end of the day?

Buy the best you can afford and make sure it fits right.

If it's too sloppy it wont do you any good (waits for Will to make some comment lol), likewise too tight will give you a major headache.

With it on your head try moving the helmet and you should feel the skin on your head move with it.
If you get a full face the cheak pads should make you look a bit like a gerbil ie they need to press against your cheaks. When you waggle the chin bar side to side and up and down likewise your head should move with the helmet. If the helmet moves and not your head it's too loose.

A decent shop should help.

Oh and most important.

All helmet manufactures size and fit are slightly different from one manufacture to the other.

So you need to try various makes on and buy the one that fits correctly even if it turns out to be the one that you don't like the most.

I dont like open face helmets.

Spend as much as you can afford. Only get one head.

Mine when it was new was safe enough to use in Formula 1.

I have this one, Sparco Pro-Jet:

I prefer an open Helmet. Go an try several to be sure it fits properly and it is comfortable (as comfortable a helm can be).
