-prolongs the life of your summer/all season tires
-during a snow storm you'll be really glad you have them
You can get a good setup with rims and tires for under $1,000 even less if slightly used.
Don't forget that winter tires stop about 25 feet shorter than a/s tire from 40 Kms/hr. See tire test in European Car magazine current issue.
