It still looks like the right thing. Anyone know what the difference is?
There was talk of a new cable that would properly charge the iPhone (make the charge indicator come on). You may have the new cable. Do you have access to an iPhone to test it for us?

I'm sorry, but this is long thread and I didn't read the whole thing, but has there been any change of if this can be retro fitted to a 2006 E90 (May 05 build)?

I don't know anyone with an iPhone.

And yeah it does look a bit smaller than what I was expecting.

I have a June '07 also, but I have a 5th gen video and I have no issue with random songs. I click next and it goes on to the next random song, so it doesn't appear to be ipod specific.

the new cable seams to do just that. and, as mentioned above, the box with the electronics on it is a bit smaller and the corners rounded a bit more. next time I deliver a car with 6fl I'll take a pic of the new cable.

Let me get this straight, as I have not been reading this thread for a while. There is a new Y cable to replace the original one supplied with 6FL?

more like the one NOT supplied with 6fl :P

but yes, there is a newer version of that cable. not sure what it really does differently, but it's a different part number.

Interesting. I need to keep reading to see if this is a fix. Mine has not been switching lately, but my wife's (newer build than mine) switches numerous times during songs.

If anyone has any info on the new cable versus the old (does it have any improved functions) I'd appreciate it. When I picked up my car in late July, the parts department was closed and they gave me an "old" cable. If the new cable has better functions and was shipping in June, I'll ask them to swap it.

We picked up my wife's E92 from the performance center in mid august and still received the "old" Y cable.

My dealer had my car for 3 days trying to fix my 6FL.

My problems were more than just flipping back to FM. Mine would stop working after the car had been in sleep mode, then wouldn't work again until I'd been driving a while.

The dealer ordered a new ULF (took 8 weeks to come in). They replaced that and said it didn't fix it. Then they started replacing all kinds of modules, the plug, the wiring, even my radio - all the while taking parts from other cars on the lot. They said they replaced some module "under the driver floor mat".

Three days later, they got it down to a 5 minute wait before it would work. Then they put it all back together, and it failed again, back to where I started. They have given up for now until BMW gives them some other ideas.

Unfortunately, now my Bluetooth option has disappeared. No phone option at all. But my phone finds the car and links to something!

I guess these USB ports are rocket science to the dealership. Back to the drawing board.

i ask myself if there is REALLY no retrofit possible !?

what is the new feature of 6FL compared to "iPod retrofit" ?

my questions are :

is it not this (iPod retrofit) :

and a simple A-B type USB cable connected to :

???????????

6FL seems to be a more integrated option than the iPod retrofit.
A kind of cable like the number 4 on first picture. And this for the 4th iPod generations ... sound through AUX, and data through USB.

Not something more ... or am i wrong ?

Does anybody know what this new Y cable actually does/fixes? Does it fix the FM switching for example? Does anyone know the part number for this, so that I can check which version I have (got my car in July)??

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the 6FL iPod switching to FM. After trying to bring up other service bulletins to replace the MULF-2, the dealer stated those bulletins only applied to pre-March 07 builds, so they opened up my own PUMA case #12060830. They ended up replacing the MULF-2 and updated the Progman software to 26.02.01 which resolved the issue. Hope this helps others out there.

The progman software, is that for iDrive?? If so, what is the software called when you do not have iDrive (I do not have iDrive)?? And what is the newest version of the software, and how can I find out what version I currently have?

IPOD MAC

Well, here I am with my new 335i BMW and $300 IPOD/USB adapter and just found out that it only works with Windows synched IPOD's (according to BMW customer support in Munich that it only works with FAT 32)? I find this hard to believe but my friends windows based IPODS work and my MAC synched IPOD's do not. Not adding up for me, Apple would not agree to do the work if it didn't work with MAC based IPOD's.... That post was posted on another forum at Apple a few days ago, i've since read this one (far superior) and realize that I may simply have the wrong cable (I don't have the Y cable), however I did reformat my 30gb 5th gen video ipod to a windows PC and it works, kind of, it locks up, repeats the same song, and does not display any list. I'm hoping that the Y cable fixes the problems and will work with a MAC formated IPOD. Anyone else here of this problem, apparently its an accepted problem for the germans and they are waiting for new software to fix it. My BMW is an American Spec BMW. Thanks

My problems appear to have been solved finally, after a total of 5 days at the dealer. They replaced the ULF module, and mony others with no luck. They finally narrowed the problem down to a fault co-ax cable. They had to pull out my back seat, the drivers seat, and run a new cable. Looks good so far.

Sounds like your problem may be all cable related... when I first got my car (before they even fixed the the FM switching issue) I took my mom out to lunch and we played her Apple-formatted iPhone with no problems whatsoever (other than the occasional FM switch).

Before you start reformatting iPods again just try using the correct cable.

Podcast

Can it play podcast? I live in Germany and download some pay radio program. I didn't see a genra named padcast, nor do I see a directory that is in my library? They work if I just keep them in the root directory but I like to seperate them so that they don't randomly come on when I want to just listen to music.

podcasts play fine for me on my iPod through 6FL. I don't think there is a genre called podcast. You should have a playlist called podcast. You can also reach them by title or artist.
