e90 330i Automatic transmission

anyone know upgrade e90 330i automatic transmission,
is 335i and 330i same transmission.

no not the same at all-335 is rated for 400 foot pounds of torque. the 330 is rated for 300 foot pounds. same brand thought (auto wise

Why do you want to upgrade? If anything swap a manual in there, not another auto.

there is no "upgrade" available. With the ZF 6 speed auto you have the best auto tranny on the market-- (aside from the newest 8 speed zf auto)

The only difference in the 335 or more torquey cars is how much torque they can handle-which means how much extra strength is built in. There is no difference in how fast they shift, tranny characteristics etc-simply more reinforced parts to hold up to more torque. No benefit unless you are superchargin you 330 since youll never see 300 foot poudns of torque let alone 400

The 330i came with the ZF bro; the same ZF as the 335i..

Not necessarily. A E92 330i with the N52 engine has the GA6L45R transmission from General Motors while the others with the N53 (direct injection) have one from ZF.

But you're obviously writing about the E90, which should only come with ZF trannies. I should read the whole thing before writing a reply. Crap.

Ah yea, in regards to outside of the US market, there are soooo many different variations...but yea here in the US it's the ZF.

After doing some research through a North American BMW parts catalog here is what I found:

323i : ZF 6HP19Z
325i : ZF 6HP19Z
328i : ZF 6HP19Z
330i : ZF 6HP19Z
335i : ZF 6HP19Z

323i LCI : GM 6L45R
328i LCI : GM 6L45R
335i LCI : ZF 6HP19Z
335d LCI : ZF 6HP26Z (443 ft/lbs)

Similar model (6HP19A) of transmission was used in the 2003-2008 Audi S4's

Also According to ZF's catalog the 6HP19/6HP21 transmission has a 258 ft/lbs to 295 ft/lbs input torque rating which is model specific.

So LCI non-turbo 3-series seem to use a GM 6L45R transmission, the 335d uses the ZF 6HP26Z and all other models use the same ZF 6HP19Z transmission (In the US and Canada).

The OP already has a good transmission, but if you are still looking for an "upgrade", look into a limited slip differential with a shorter rear-end gear (like a 3.46 from the auto 335i, or a 3.64 from an auto 330i). That will give the car a boost in acceleration and better traction.
