If the N54 sucked they wouldnt keep using it. This fuel pump is probably going in the 1M; I am sure they wouldnt have used the N54 again if they didnt have a real fix. This is it.

I just got a call back from SA. She ran my VIN number and I am getting new injectors + the new fuel pump under the recall next Monday.

Yay, getting hpfp and injectors but the tool used to code them is broken. They said it is a software issue all over...

That pump failed after 700km...doesn't count, it was probably a manufacturing defect or bad install.

I'm still on the original 13537537320 from 4/2007. Had a few long cranks in the summer of 2007 and then they never appeared again.

I think we will continue to see failures.

When I picked up my car, I was told that I got the newest pump available. It's pump # 13517616446.
I went to European Auto Source after the pump was installed and they looked up the part number to see what the deal was with this new part number.
There were some questions that we had, Why this new part number?
What's different with this one?

Then we noticed a huge number.
We saw that there is an inventory of over 27,000 fuel pumps with part #13517616446 in the United States.
That's HUGE!
If you looked at the previous part numbers of fuel pumps, you would find that at most, there would be 1000. At most.

Now, why the huge number?
Do you guys think that this pump is the fix and BMW is getting ready to fix everybody's N54/N55 to this pump?
Or
Do you think that BMW is just getting ready for everybody's pump to fail and these are just back ups?

I'm wondering and hoping that it's a fix because why would BMW send so many of a specific part number if it's going to add to the problem.

Discussion?
How is your car running now, my SA told me this should fix some other issues like poor MPG, man I hope so.

I suspect that the cars that have continuous HPFP issues will continue to have them, however others who had 1 or less replacements will not.

BTW guys,
I was happy with my older pump as well until my car completely died the other day and the only way it would run was to keep it revving past 3k rpm.
That's right. Everything was fine and then boom.
When it failed, it failed!

And, this HPFP was the record because the last one was my 5th.
So yes, this new pump that I just received is the 6th.
I know there are plenty of people saying that their pump has been running fine for XXXX miles and everything is great.
Well I'm happy for you but I do a lot of driving. I just hit 90k miles but that's no excuse for me going through 6 HPFPs.

I really do believe that it's not "if" the older pumps will fail. It's "when".

Mr.5

10/07 build for me... original pump with 26k miles (2008 335xi coupe)

Should I go in for the injector recall and the pump? and if I am on original software, do you know what my software is, and should I keep it or not? I am going v5 or cobb within the next 2 months if that makes a difference.

its not really a software issue with the injector scanner -- its a network issue -- with hundreds of dealers scanning multiple injectors its a little overwhelming for the database and the network connection.

but itll get resolved soon --

It will be very interesting to see if the new pump is the final solution, your car is a perfect reference since it has proven to have a huge appetite on HPFP's. Do you have any idea why so many pumps are consumed in your car? Is the fuel bad where you live? I may be so since the fuel pump failure rate in your car is about 10 times more than here in Europe.

hmmmm Mine has been fine. I guess I'll just wait to see what happens. I have a FMIC and downpipes by then. Hope they won't give me much grief to do a HPFP/injector recall

My SA ran my VIN and said that I am not eligable for either the injector update or the fuel pump replacement. What gives? My car is a mid-07 build date 335i coupe?

I want to replace them before I encouter a serious issue.

If you read the TIS you'll see its not just the prod date range of the car that matters, its the injector part number and fuel pump part number that tell whether they need to be recalled or not

Correct, since they have been replaced SO MANY times by BMW under warranty, production dates are out the door. You need to reference any paperwork if you had them replaced and if you cant find it or it wasnt labeled properly they will have to visually inspect the part number on the injectors/pump

not ALL cars are affected by this campaign. If your VIN doesnt show any SIBs currently, doesnt mean that it will stay that way.

Like other manufacturers, with large target market cars, they do not issue all the letters in one fell swoop. they are sent out in waves. in cases like the M60 engine campaign, lots of cars were involved, but not at the same time. this will also affect the printout the dealer sees. one day it not there and later on, it shows up.

give it a bit of time, this whole recall is in the early stages -- if have an affected vehicle, they will send you a letter. if they have your current address on file.

if you are a second owner, and did not purchase it through a dealer.. contact
BMW Customer Service @ 1-800-831-1117 and have your vehicle data updated.

cheers!!
