Lightbulb Another low budget custom exhaust 335I Sedan

Hi Guys,

For a while i've been looking on youtube for exhaust clips, couldn't really make up my mind, plus i am not willing to pay for the overpriced exhaust systems available. I cannot justify paying 1k+ for parts that will cost that vendor a measly $250, i understand that the price is related to the fitment and dyno results/design the vendor made, but im cheap, so anyhow, my system will be a weird one .

There are a lot of different thought out there on using an x pipe resulting in loss of power, but i dont care, i could care less about 2-3 rwhp, i've always loved the tone an x pipe gives, nice and quiet on the low end, and when u get on it, sound loud and screaming nice and it will flow, i used x pipes in my mustang cobras and achieve more than 500 RWHP in a dual 2.5 inch exhaust system with an x pipe. i understand my cobra is a v8 supercharged and doesn't not have turbos so the results may be a little different, but i dont care im crazy.

I've also seen that people use the x near the rear end right where the resonator was at, and they use the mufflers at the end near the exhaust tips.
I plan on making my design similar to my 03 cobra, gonna put the x near the front, mufflers about where the stock secondary cat is at.
Im gonna keep my resonators and rear mufflers, then after a couple of days, keep the resonator and remove rear mufflers, then after couple more days remove the resonator at the end, this way i can see which setup/tone i like the best.

Ill post videos and pictures,

I just got my x pipe in today

The X pipe probably won't make a hell of a lot of difference.

You may be disappointed in the sound. On N/A or supercharged cars managing the exhaust pulses is very important to both power and sound.

On a turbo car all those exhaust pulses get smoothed out going through the turbine. From the exhaust of the turbo you want the minimum backpressure possible to help the turbo spool quickly and move exhaust gas through the turbo.

It's definitely not going to sound anything like a mustang cobra!

I have a buddy that welds, I am thinking of making a 3" system like the HPF exhaust with a resonator. Tell us how it goes.

You got a good point,
Im going to be using flowmaster 3" outlaw mufflers. backpressure will definitely be minimum, i dont think no one has done a setup like this, so its gonna be interesting,, or it might just sound like the muffler deletes with straight pipe people do. ill have to find out by trying it out

So if your MagnaFlow's look like the OP's mufflers, I'm assuming you have the glass packs?

I don't think it would drone because I'm not using a mesh wrap type muffler, these flowmasters have chamber style walls, which mimic their popular 2 Chamber mufflers without an actual chamber blocking the flow.

Just got the x pipe & mufflers installed, it sounds just like a G35, so far so good i like the tone this setup produces, just have to wait for 2 4" black chrome tips I bought, then I'll remove the rear stock mufflers and see what it really sound like.

Moo

I specifically asked how to get the G35 sound from my 335i, and I was told this:

Needless to say, I hate it. I hear it echoing through the streets at all hours, it somehow carries for miles, sounds exactly like a cow to me.

I know, real helpful post. I couldn't resist.
I can't wait to hear how yours turns out. Subscribed.

Do you have those after the resonators, or a resonator delete as well? I'm thinking of putting those on post resonators.

The sound is ok, but do you still have the stock mufflers in place even in the last video ?
