How often do you get stopped for tint? Worth it?
I am going to set up a tint appt for later this week. More than likely I am going 20% all around including the front two windows. I am always paranoid about driving at night with tinted windows and always roll it down. I currently have 20% on my old car and instantly hit the auto window down button every time there is a cop near by.
For the people with front window tint, do you regret putting it on? How many times have you been stopped and what do you think of 20%? Thanks.. |

It depends on where you're from and how strict your law enforcement are.

yeah i have 15% tint all around and had some trouble with cops, but just got warnings. I was very lucky. Just roll down your windows when you drive and don't be a speed racer and you will be okay. 20% will be okay and just make sure you open the sunroof thing to allow more light to come in.

My car is murdered out with 13% all around and 32% on the windshield, haven't been pulled over yet (although I probably jinxed myself). Must be the KMA plate heh.
Actually had a pretty in depth conversation with a friend that is a Sheriff and he said there are SO many variables that it's not even funny: a.) Did you draw attention to yourself? b.) Is there a notice out for a car similar to yours? c.) Are you just in a bad area? d.) Is the cop feeling like a dick that day? It's really a crap shoot. His "Best" advice: Don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That pretty much sums up how to "avoid" a tint ticket, aka you can't. lol |

I don't intend on doing any crazy mods to the car, just oem blacklines and the angel eyes. I travel a bit through out the bay area for work, but what I'm worried about is that I'm always in the city or sj on weekends.
Downtown San Jose is swarmed by cops at night, has anyone had issues there at night on weekends? It seems like they are looking for any reason to pull someone over and look for duis. I don't intend on drinking and driving, I just don't want to constantly be hassled. |

I have had 15% all around my e92 for over a year now and I have been stopped twice.
Once by Irvine PD. And I WAS in the wrong place at the wrong time, it was a gloomy morning and i had stopped to make a right turn at a red light getting off the 5 fwy, and as im stopped, looking at oncoming traffic i see the biker cop just posted at the off ramp, so it was too late to roll down the windows, and sure enough he lights me up. Gave me a ticket real fast and that was it. My other ticket was given to me by CHP, she was in the carpool lane and was in my blind spot, totally missed the unit so when i did see it, she was already behind me with lights on. Im always, naturally, on the look out for units and bikes but there are still the times where i dont catch em in time! |

i think more than color is how flashy your car looks. if you have it stickered up with crazy looking lights going off and stereo bumping, then your chances of getting pulled over would be greather, especially if you have really dark tint. My last car had 40% tint with basic mods. I got pulled over just once and this was a couple months before I returned the car (lease).

I'll be honest, I have 30% all around and I have never had a problem for my tint, except once when I was in Fremont an got stopped by Officer Rosette. Other than that, I never run into problems in San Jose, whether I'm in or around downtown. I've been at stop lights next to police officers with my windows up.
For San Francisco, I'm not sure how strict they are but I haven't had problems up there before. However you might want to wait for SF locals to chime in about their experiences.

Also, when I got stopped in Fremont it was a cloudy day and my sunroof slider was closed.
Another thing is, don't drive like an idiot and attract attention to yourself when driving in San Jose and you should be fine.

I have 20% all around and I just recently got pulled over for tint. Had it on for about three years now. Not bad I guess? I also try to open the moon roof to let more light in.

i live in downtown SF and have 20% all over. sometimes i do forget to pull the windows down but i have never been pulled over or something. I try to be more careful at night rather than the morning. good advise by one member in this thread is always have your sun roof open to allow more light. i always tone down my music at night as well. note that i drive a sparkling graphite with black lines and hyper black wheels.
go with the 20% all around. the car will look a lot better in my opinion. i'm just not a fan of tints that are not of equal shade. officers in downtown are not so bad. im more concerned when i travel to daly city or south SF to be honest. |
