Delivery takes most of the day - until about 3pm. Since the Driving School is a full day day minimum I don't see how it could be done.

How long is your drive back home? Mine is about 5 to 5.5 hours, but I'm thinking about spending the night in Savannah. Probably not a good idea to put 400 highway miles on a new car. People say not to drive at constant speed for too long during break in period....who knows!

Long drive

It is a fairly long drive. 627.60 miles (10 hours) according to Mapquest. We are spending the night and following day in Northern North Carolina, so that is where we are going to be taking our break. We are seeing friends we have not seen in 10+ years. Also, my wife has a very small bladder (not litterally), so there is the solution to me having to keep varying the RPMs (rolling eyes). We are also asking BMW to plan out our trip, so we might even take longer to get home. I do not think that will bother me at all.

Does Performance Center Delivery delay the actual delivery of your car? My dealer is saying it adds 2-3 weeks compared to regular delivery (to NJ). I think he just doesn't want to deal with the paperwork.

And if you do Performance Center Delivery, does that mean you won't get all the freebies (like floor mats, keychains, hats)from your dealer?

I believe there's a delay because they have to schedule a date for you in advance and thus they want a pad to make sure the car will be there in time (and also so they can install accessories, etc.) They wanted 7 weeks from the production week to delivery date for me which probably works out closer to 1-2 weeks extra than 2-3.

It's no cost to the dealer so he should be willing to supply the freebies the same.

It takes longer due to the frequency of ships that depart Bremerhaven (once/week) for Charleston compared to the ones that stop in NY.

People do this daily on their ED trips so it can certainly be done here.Just vary the speed and don't get a speeding ticket.Performance center can add some to for delivery since they need to get you a pick up dates after your car is on the water. It's a great way to take delivery or redelivery !

Are we talking days or weeks? My dealer thinks 1-2 weeks longer, which I find hard to believe.

Most likely you'll have to wait an additional 2-3 weeks. Mine arrived South Carolina beginning of March, and my delivery date is March 30th. That was the earliest I could get.

I am not very sure on this. But I would think perhaps a week is about right.

My thoughts: a week to me at this point is worth it. Where else am I going to be able to push the limit of "my" car, without it being mine, on a closed course and be encouraged to do so? I can not think of anywhere. Simply being able to do that is worth the agony of waiting just a little longer. Everyone who has posted, and everywhere I read about it, I see that the PCD is worth it. I have yet to see even one post that implied that the experience was just "Okay". Based on all that information, I decided to go for the PCD. Will I miss the matts, hats and keychains? I hope I get that when I visit my dealership, I get them at that point. If I do, I will be very happy, if not, I think the PCD experience is still worth more then those combined.

..just my thoughts....

Thank you, Jonathan, I appreciate the feedback.

Unfortunately my CA drug his feet and when I asked him to schedule the PCD by the time he faxed the paperwork he was told they were fully booked for the entire month of March. I was looking at March 16. The earliest he could do is request a date in April but that was a crap shoot too. I was pissed but told him to have it delivered to the dealer and that way I was able to get it sooner.

Somewhat bittersweet that I can't do the PCD but get the car sooner. Looks like I'll be doing the ED+PCD for the M3 in a few years!!!

Looks like you guys delivering new cars at the PCD are rockin' and rollin'.

When you finalize the paperwork at your dealer before you go to PCD, you can always inquire about them at that time.

I hope this doesn't happen to me. My car is on a ship going to Charleston and I'm in NY......if the date they give me is not good, they will have to ship it up north.

For those who did or doing PDC, did you have to pay for the car 2 weeks before delivery? My dealer has asked for payment 2 weeks before delivery. I thought that applied to ED only.

Be firm with your CA asap and tell him you expect him to promptly schedule your PCD. Tell him you've heard how busy they are in Spartanburg and tell him to get on it NOW!

I think that is SOP. (standard operating procedure)

Hey, I'm in NY as well. My dealer is dragging his feet on the PCD, but I'm going to push for it.

I'm thinking about flying to Charlotte, NC and renting a car to drive to SC... flights are much cheaper to Charlotte than GSP. I saw $99 flights on JetBlue.

Flights are cheap into ATL too, that's what I was figuring to do....I'll check out Charlotte though, thanks.

Same here. My plan is also to fly to Charlotte, NC and rent a car to SC. Oneway flight to GSP from Chicago was appox $300 compared to $80-100 to NC. I did a quick search and it seems like you can get oneway car rental for approx $60-70.

So is anyone actually doing the PCD on 3/29 with me? Anyone?

Jonathan, I have not got any information about what we do when we arrive, or what to expect when we get there. Are we supposed to get some kind of itinerary sometime? Perhaps when I do all the paperwork with my dealer (this is happeneing on Saturday.)

Any insight you can provide would be great! Thank you!
