JB4 left in and dealership updating software

I have a 2007 335i with JB4 and am out of warranty. It ran out last month. I brought the car in today to have the rear brakes checked out and they said they are going to check the sensors to reset the code. Well, I left the JB4 in and on map 0 since I did not have time to take it out. I read somewhere that you can leave it in on map 0 and it will be fine. Keep in mind, I am not in warranty and do not intend on purchasing one. Well, they called me and said that the car needs a software update. And that they tried once and the car did not take it. They are going to try again. Does anyone know if this is because of the JB4? I was able to read a few threads on procedes and having to have it in a certain mode, but couldn't find too much on JB4. Has anyone with JB4 or even JB3 actually left it in and gotten a software update without problems? I think I also left it autoclearing codes. If I would have known that there was a software update happening, I would have postponed the appointment and took out the tune, but had no idea that a software update would be necessary to check the rear sensors.

I believe you have to set it on Map 0 with Autoclearing OFF.

Don't think it has anything to do with the JB4. I had the same issue when I took my car in for the new hpfp, injectors and update software. I left the JB4 in on map 0 and they had a problem updating the software. Then they tried it a second time and it worked. Sometimes they just have to update it twice. The same thing happened once before with no tune in.

BMW has trouble updating ECUs all the time. With map0 the JB4 is fully off. All CAN stuff is off and its on bypass. Map0 isn't a stock "like" map it is stock. For all intents and purposes map0 is like driving without a tune.

I've had many customers get their software updated with the JB3/4 installed (myself included)

Since you are almost out of warranty tell them you'll pass on the software update..

I was at the Dealership last week and this the second time they had to update my software. On my first visit I had the JB3 on and the software update failed once and the second time it went through. On my second/recent visit I had the JB4 and it went through the first time. BTW I left the JB4 on map 0.

Just got my car back from the dealer. It took the software the second time. He said he had to something special but either way, it worked out and my tune wasn't affected. He didn't say anything at all about it. Left it on map 0 and it was cool. Thanks everyone for your input and advice.

so, since the method to activate the JB3/4 is pretty much public knowledge, what if your dealer is smart enough to just try those steps to see if one exists ? you would think bmwna would instruct them to do this prior to any major repair.. or are they just not that intelligent
