Exhaust "agressiveness" ratings

Hi all,

I know we have a good thread already with exhaust videos, however, I think we need a thread that rates the "agressiveness" of the sound of the different systems out there.

For instance, if I'm new to the 335i community, and I know I want an aftermarket exhaust, but don't want something too loud or obnoxious, which systems should I look at.

So, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being straight pipes, and 1 being stock BMW exhaust, how would you rate the following:

--BMW performance exhaust

--Vanguard

--HKS

--Milltek

--AE

--Ultimate Racing Exhaust

--Magnaflow

etc. etc.

The thing is, you need to specify which downpipes are used...

AE Catless + AR Catless -> I'd vote for 5, maybe 6 on "aggressiveness" level

you forgot Remus Race. jeez. and if you looking for non-aggressive... then I guess that is why you didn't list it...

BMW Performance Exhaust is definitely not the quietest. It's pretty aggressive even with all the cats. With catless downpipes it well in the "loud" territory, and fully catless it's unbearable until you weld some resonators in.

Now, here is another thing. Are we rating the loudness based on all cars that we've heard on the streets, or only BMWs?

good point. also, if we're rating only for BMW... it's important to note that the n55 is louder out of the box - stock....

AMS AR CATLESS I would say 5/10

Wish it was a bit louder honestly

Remus Race with Vishnu Catless is crazy loud. I'll be conservative and say 7/10, but some folks on this forum who've heard it in person would probably say 8 or 9. I've got vids on here, the camera mic sensitivity needs to be tweaked to stop distortion. I can't capture it right... still working on it.

My personal opinion: scale of 1 to 10

--BMW performance exhaust 4

--Vanguard 7

--HKS 6

-- Milltek 6

--AE 5

--Ultimate Racing Exhaust 6

--Magnaflow 6

--Remus 8

--AA 5

--RPI 6

--RDS 7

--Straight Pipes 10

--HPF 12

I'll edit if I think of some others or change my opinion

Thanks for all the input so far! My original intent of the thread was only on 335i's (not all cars like someone mentioned), and with stock downpipes. However, I get that a lot of us replace the downpipes too, so that can definitely be factored in...

This helps a lot....because I'm considering an exhaust on my stock 335i and want a nice sound but not too aggressive. Wasn't planning on replacing my downpipes either. So, it looks like the AE, Milltek, HKS, Ultimate Racing, etc. (the 5's & 6's) are about my style.

I think they all sound about the same. I've heard some clips on YouTube and they sound similar. Plus it's a turbo car so they not as loud as let's say a mustang

I have the Dinan Exhaust which is pretty much mufflers, kind of subtle compared to some full catbacks. The other day I added downpipes and holy mother of exhaust notes it's the most unique 335i exhaust combo I've heard in 4 years. Screams at you in the high rpm range almost like an e46 m3, I'm going to post a write up with sound/video soon. Still minimal drone on the fwy.

Wait until bandimere next week. There are a few of us with exhausts and you will be able to get a decent REAL WORLD feel for it.

I have the BMW performance exhaust, and I can tell you, unless Im romping on it or crusing higher rpms with throttle applied, its very tame. BUT, when you want to get on it, its VERY good sounding. I love it, best mod I did to the car!

yea, drone around 1800 rpm... but to be honest, I've been in others with Vanguard, Active... etc... drone is a sad reality right around that range. again, only around 1800-2000, bump it down a gear and it goes away.

it's important to note however that in highway cruising there is no drone.

Is there much drone on the AE exhaust with catless downpipes? And if you guys who have catbacks could buy again, what would you get? (say what you have to )
