Exactly. Seafoam doesn't do sh*t for carbon buildup (as many Audi/VW owners who tried it have found out). Neither do catch cans, water injection and other gimmicks. The only way to clean out the deposits is by removing the head and applying lots of elbow grease.

N54 = direct injected = no fuel goes through the intake manifold = no fuel additive spraying against the backside of the intake valves.

Guys if you open up intake you ll see the carbon on valves it's hard like a rock esp on cyl 5, no detergent can work like the walnut blaster would

The carbon blasting only does so much, I ended up using seafoam while scrubbing the valves and it made them look new.

Exactly. Seafoam or techron in the gas tank will do nothing because its sprayed directly into the cylinder. What cakes up your valves is PCV blow-by vaporized motor oil, which is in the intake stream with air. BTW to the poster who said seafoam can land carbon on a valve stem, we already have this on our valve stems - it is part of the problem. And, you do not have to remove the cylinder head (another post in this thread), only the intake manifold.
