Car makes a strange noise when turns the wheel right when stationary. Only happens when turning the wheel right, not left. No noise when on any lock and moving forward, only stationary and turning the wheel right.
Got a video of it last night going from left to right a few times. You can hear me turning the wheel left and no noise, but when turning right there is this strange rubbery rubbing/grinding/knocking noise. http://s1303.photobucket.com/user/Bl...7t0gm.mp4.html Am I right in thinking it could be steering rack mounts..if there is such a thing?! Any help would be very grateful |

I was always taught that, if you can possibly avoid it, you should never turn the wheel when the car is stationary as it puts undue strain on the rack and other steering components. The aim is to only turn the wheel when the car is in motion - however slowly.

I know, I have always been taught that as well and where I can I do avoid doing it..however in some cases you don't have a choice, and out of the 4 cars I have owned (21yo) this is the only car to do it and it surely can't be right, especially considering it only happens when turning right? I shall try and get the video reposted at some point, phone seems to have had a hissy fit and can't access photo bucket on work computers
