Let's talk MPG
I have an 2006 325i 6mt that I picked up in November last year and I'm somewhat disappointed in my gas mileage. I average 17-18 which is a lot less than my friends 2008 328 which he consistently gets 22-24mpg. His is an auto which should mean worse mileage if anything, correct?
Any thoughts? My cars completely stock engine wise short of an intake(simota). Thanks in advance. |

unless you drive the exact same route and exact same way he does, its not really a valid comparison.
i get 15-16mpg 100% city. but my drive is less than 2 miles each way with like 5 or 6 stop lights.

also depends on when you shift and what rpm you cruise at.

I shift rarely higher than 3k ish. And always Cruz around 2k ish.
Although on occasion I do get a little throttle happy... I need to do my spark plugs, would that have any effect on mpg? |

I've been getting 17-18mpg since the car was new in my 328ix E92 with AT. Still getting the same with 20k on it.
My daily drive is only 26mi total - half city/half hiway. I always us DS mode and usually shift with paddles

My best ever recorded MPG was 25 with 350 out of 400 being highway intercity miles.
I average 300-350 a tank.

I wish I could get 23 mpg to and fro work. I get around 20mpg driving 75% highway / 25% street in Atlanta. Our traffic sucks... so a lot of stop n go.

I have a 325i with 3-stage manifold and AA tune and average 24-25mpg. some freeway in the morning with lots of stop and go in afternoon L.A. traffic.
I'd ditch the intake, it's probably hurting your mpg, especially in city driving when the car isn't moving much, and it's just sucking in a lot of hot air. |

06 325i 6MT. 24.5MPG average. I drive 75% back roads 25% highway too. I also tend to be a bit rev happy because of my exhaust so either I have a magic gas saver mod, or you guys need to learn how to ease on the pedal LOL. I'd say I do above average amounts of redline rips and high revs throughout the day too. MPG and fun can be done!

Worst MPG I get is 23.5; and that is when flooring it as soon as I can and driving at 3-4k in heavy trafic because i'm too lazy to shift and that my exhaust sounds so nice. lol
Best is 36.75 and that is cruising on the highway with two stops during the whole tank. Gotta say I got a considerable list of mods, new plugs, well maintained car as well as a clean air filter at every oil change. I got 56k miles. Yep; MPG and performance is doable. Just dont put anything in your car. That Simota intake should be good tho; since its sealed and suck the air from your kidneys; and not from the engine bay.

Also depends what gas you buy, more ethanol means a lower efficiency. Using Shell 93 with 10% ethanol, if I drive from my house to work, which is 35 miles each way, I get about 24mpg with some short errands. If I drive from my girlfriend's house to work, which is 2 miles each way, I get 18mpg.
When I got ethanol free 93 and drove from MD to VT with no one on the highway (and a car FULL of stuff), I got 34mpg. I stopped trying to figure it out, because it won't ever be consistent. |

I always use Shell with Ethanol and i'm getting better MPG then any other gas company.
I stopped trying to figure it out also; since i'm happy with what I get.

I WISH there was an ethanol free station in Texas. If there was, I'd pay a hefty premium for it.
