My I phone 4 is playing up. The buttons are not workign properly. It only 10 months old on a contract. IF I rock up to an Apple shop will they just replace it?

Should do yes, I made an appointment at the 'Genius bar' at Lakeside when my home button wasn't working, and it got swapped straight away after they had done a quick test on it...

Do you mean to say physical buttons? or touch screen.

Mine was replaced after 12 months and 14 days.
It was out of warranty but they still replaced it.

Funnily enough I've noticed this with mine. Sometimes it take a few stabs at the button before it works. Also, my whole phone seems to be getting lazy when zipping through the menus, or playing Angry Birds can often get a bit staggery. Might have to take a trip myself and see what they say. Need to check how old it is...

Try holding down the power and circle button together for about 10 seconds. Resets the phone and can help especially if it has crashed.

Also in regards to a 'lazy' phone try double tapping the circle button and manually close the apps down as they stay open otherwise and can really slow down the phone.

I just called, mine is out of warranty, options were to upgrade (not likely with the ip5 not too far away) or take it to an apple store who can send if off for repair at a cost to me but they're provide a replacement whilst mine is fixed. It's not troubling me that much so will just hang-tight I reckon.

You just need to turn up with the phone mate. No receipts etc needed. They can tell how old it is as soon as they plug it in to their system.

Just had mine replaced with the same problem, apparently it's something to do with dirt getting under the buttons and reduces responsiveness

Good. That's fine. I'll just rock up.

Doc, how do I go about booking an appointment?

Before I've just rocked up? Waited 20mins and have been served.

Depends how busy they are. You can usually book a time online or by phoning the store.

As others said, they can track how old is your phone. It is best to book appointment online or use apple store application (download it on your iphone).
I went straight to them and they were very busy, so I had to book appointment for next day and go back on next day.
Carl you will be fine, book an appointment and give it a try.
Make sure you back up your stuff on icloud so if they change the phone, you can retrieve your stuff on your new phone.

Makkan mate, can I just back it up on the laptop? Will they clear my current phone of it's data etc?

I don't really wanna book an appointment because I rekon it will be ages away,

I've rocked up before without an appointment. No doubt this time I'll be sent away.

Yes you can creat a back up on computer. Connect it to itunes and creat a back up through iphone options.

You can creat icloud account (5GB for free) and it will also create a back up on there.
Here is how to do it.
http://www.apple.com/uk/support/icloud/

Also you can have a look at here if your phone is still covered for repair.
http://www.apple.com/uk/support/contact/

You can have appointments for next day.
Have a look at here by selecting your nearest store and see what dates / times are available.

http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/

And All the best.

Oh yes, and they do not wipe your data from your old phone unless you ask them to do it in front of you, or you do it yourself.

So please make a back up, and if they give you new phone, make sure you delete your personal data before you leave that store.
