Low tire light

I got a low tire light on my 335i yesterday. I tried resetting it but it didnt go away. I checked the tire pressure and its fine. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Most likely a bad sensor or possibly a programming issue. I don't know how in depth your knowledge of the TPMS system is but I will explain as much as possible. Each tire and wheel has it's own sensor inside. Each sensor is an electronic device and therefore needs a battery. These batteries are non-serviceable as they are sealed within the sensor. Here at our facility we do start to see sensors dropping out due to low battery power around 5-6 years. Although we do see ones go much longer this is our experience. This is not to say you do not have another fault in the tpms system but it is certainly a possibility.

Does the light flash at all or always stay solid? The answer to this question should tell more of the story.

You can usually find them aftermarket for about $75 - $100. You would then need it installed but any garage that does tires can do that. If you get the right sensor it should be able to learn to your tpms system without a trip to BMW.

Does anyone have direct experience with a bad sensor? On most vehicles if you have a bad sensor the TPMS light will flash signifying a fault in the tpms system....

Haha didn't think about this at first but your first issue will be finding which one has gone bad if this is in fact the case. Some larger garages or big tire shops can diagnose TPMS issues with going to BMW. Obviously BMW can take care of this for you but expect a diagnostic fee and then dealer pricing on a sensor.

I've replaced 2 cause of bad batteries. It happens. Any tire shop can install. First one just failed. Second one was like dying and would be good for an hour then trip the error then good then trip the error. Was annoying as hell. Idrive goes bonkers

Do you remember how much you paid per sensor all said and done?

they are about 59.99 and about $35 to put in. If you go to the dealer they charge you almost $200.00 fit the sensor about the same to mount it. Go here for the sensor or something similar:
Ask for Joey, some of the best customer service I have ever had....I am getting my rims from him:

For OEM replacement, use www.tpmsdirect.com. Used them countless times at the shop and nothing but good stuff. IIRC, the OEM sensor for my 08' 335i was about 45$.

About the low light, if your sure you reset the system correctly and have the correct pressure, the battery is probably shot.

Find a shop that utilizes a Bartec tool and they can pull up all the info on the sensor. Varies by year but they can pull temperature in the tire along with air pressure and what not. If the Bartec cant wake up the sensor and pull the info, the sensor is shot.
