I have had just the 3100 (Limp Mode) code on its own ONLY which seems strange to me as I understood it is usually associated with some other fault code. Have any of you experienced this situation of just the limp mode only?

As background, I am running CobbAP Stage 2+ with aFe DCI, AR DPs, ER CP with Forge DVs and ER FMIC. Shortly after having the new hardware installed, I did get a 30FF code for boost leak pop up but this was resolved by swapping out the green springs for the firmer yellow springs (no problems anywhere else). The boost leak problem was solved and I cleared all fault codes and she ran great.

Now I get the 3100 just on its own. At each restart the car resets and starts off out of limp mode but after driving for 5-10 minutes in normal traffic it goes into limp mode (usually after backing off the accelerator a little). Again this is just in normal driving and not putting my foot in it.

I have searched the forum and it seems this can be caused by faulty Vanos solenoids, but wondered if any of you local guys have had similar issues and what you did to fix it?

isnt that an overboost error code?

I'm thinking boost leak, jammed waste gate, leaking vac line perhaps????

Unfortunately no - it is '30FE' or '30FF' which indicates those issues and they are usually logged along with the '3100' I am getting. That is what's puzzling me ... I get just the one indicating that the engine has gone into limp mode but nothing else which gives me any indication of where the issue is. Thanks.

3100 boost-pressure control, deactivation
EXPLANATION: This code is triggered any time you experience a reduced boost mode.
FIX: This code itself is meaningless and serves only to let you know a 'limp mode' took place.

Have you turned your tune off to see if its 'tune related' (doubt that it will be though?)

To tell if it's boost (leak) related: Plug your COBB in and set the live data to read Boost. See if it's boosting past 5psi before the limp mode kicks in..

If it's not boosting - Pull the vacuum plug off near your airbox (careful) after a drive.. If there's no Pffft of air - you have a vacuum leak. If that's the case, your wastegates will probably be rattling louder too.

If it is a leak - let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.. I even have some left over hose you can have!

sounds like a boost leak code.

check your CP, DV's and vacuum lines associated to them.

As suggested, I first did a careful inspection of all connection to the CP, DV's and vacuum lines and found they were all properly fitted.

I then plugged the COBB AP and set it to read Boost in Live Data mode and took it out for a drive. The COBB showed it was boosting up to normal levels for the Stage 2+FMIC tune. So from that I concluded that there are no boost leaks.

On that drive and again the following day, I drove it long and when I could, HARD and it performed without any issues (and felt fantastic ) – no limp mode, no other codes. Very puzzling but could it have been an initial software glitch as I had not really pushed the car hard since the hardware upgrade and the Stage 2 tune ….
