Wish me luck, car is going in to get looked at for turbo replacement

Well i made the APPT to get my car looked at to see if i can get new turbos for rattling under the law suit. My car has the worst rattle you can imagine and im sick of it.

When i talked to BMW seattle a few months ago they said they were not honoring the lawsuit and i would have to pay out of pocket for the repair, and the lawsuit would not be covering wastegates or turbos for rattling no matter how bad it is. Only if they fail totaly will they be replaced

So im going to play dumb and just take it in. when they asked what was wrong i just said, i have no idea by my car rattles when i start it and it rattles when de-accelerating it sounds like sticking a screw driver into a fan blade

So hopefully they will fix the turbos for free. I guess time will tell. Other wise they are going to find the side of me that they dont want to see

Good luck. They denied mine, but I'm FBO and just don't care. Too much of a PIT@ to pull everything every time I need to visit them for a warranty issue. They have been good about doing everything else like two HPFP's.

I hope I can muster up a similar attitude when I take my car in from now on..After some back and forth my dealer was willing to overlook the intercooler, but at FBO methinks my warranty is probably finished….

Good luck OP

problem we have is if you change a bolt they can say that bolt caused something to fail and not cover it. Too many loop holes in the warranty, but if you push hard enough their really isn't anything they can do with regard to aftermarket parts. Just pull your flash to play it safe. I run in Valet so they can pull codes if needed, but I've got to the point unless I have a major issue, I won't even think about taking it in and letting them touch my car. If they decided to flash without asking me first it would mess up my under flash for fueling. Not that I can't fix it, just a pain in the @

I hear ya, I'm probably going to have some sort of rule whereby unless the cost of repair is over X hundred $ i'll just pay for it out of pocket at an indy, if there's a major issue i'll bring it in and give them the stinkface when they try to tell me my dci caused a rod to let go or some nonsense like that. My concern with this plan is that the larger the issue, the less likely they are to show me any flexibility. So that would kinda defeat my plan The car has been OK for the last 5K miles or so, so i'd imagine something is on the verge of breaking.

Sure seems like outside of the states ya'll get reamed by BMW regarding warranty. I know for a fact that BMWCA and BMW China are horrible with warranty issues, I wasn't aware it was like that in the UK as well

From an enthusiast stand point i understand getting warranty replacement is good cause its free, but to expect free turbo's after they have been over-boosted? Do you really blame them for denying warranty? Our Mitsubishi friends have it worse. If you change your wiper blades they void your entire warranty LOL A lot of companies are looking for any excuse nowadays, especially with all the false claims coming about. It costs them more money and therefore the price of the car and servicing goes up to offset. I'm not trying to be johnny do-good-er here, but some of you have to realize that they aren't in business to lose money...Eitherway, good luck!

You know how you hear of those crazy parents ( usually a mom) who takes their kids into the doctor over and over again with no symptoms? Eventually they cause harm to their kid and get the doctor to notice. I think you need to be a bad parent to your car. It's extreme and I know you love your car, but for the sake of your sanity, please o' please force a check engine light on so the doctor will see it and diagnose it as a complete failure. O_o

Just shorten the wastegate arm some and you'll throw a 30ff in no time. This is ultimately the code (and cause) you'll throw anyways.

It's not a recall, it's a warranty extension to 82k miles with specific symptoms that trigger the warranty.

Correct , it is not a recall, but a service bulletin with specific failure criteria. The only issue is that the dealer will eat cost if it doesn't pass the secondary stage.
First: rattle on decel between "3500rpm and 4000"
Second: check engine light reduced power/boost

Third : drill bit test

First one is easy, you can hear it everytime on start up. Second is easy, their scan tool. Cost to them , maybe 1 hour of tech time. The third is the actual removal of the whole system to test on the bench. They will eat 8 or so hours of removal and 8 or so hours of reinstall . So if your turbos are not bad, they go back on. The check engine light gives them the go ahead to get their money from warranty, otherwise your claim is invalid from step two.

Actually if you can get proof and speak to the Forman his would be good. When pulling the DPs test and take pics. They want the work, but hesitant to take the effort to prove it to BMW, unless there's some certainty.
