PSS rubbing with 20mm spacers

Hi guys,

I had the stock Potenzas with 162 rims on my pre-LCI E90 sized 255/35/18, and switched to the exact same size Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

I had 20mm spacers on and they resulted in the tire edge rubbing the fender when going over dips or bumps. Attached are pictures showing what part of the tire was affected and the lip of the fender. The third picture shows the clearance with spacers removed.

I removed the spacers for now, but it looks sunken and ugly. I am wondering whether stepping down to a 15mm, 12mm, or 10mm will be the largest I can go without rubbing in any condition.

I ran a 255 35 on nitto nt05 with 20mm tires and had no rubbing. Even with a full car, no rubs. Sounds like the pss run wide or you can run a negative camber in the rear

Sorry, forgot to mention.

330i RWD Sport Suspension, 162 type rims. Stock everything, except the 20mm spacers, when it rubbed. Yes, these tires do seem to run wider and are very square edged on the sidewall.

A combination of stiffer/refreshed rear suspension and a slight roll will likely take care of it.

Car has less than 60k, suspension is in good shape. I don't want to roll the fender or increase negative camber, I am looking for the largest size spacer I can get away with based on anyone else that has the same setup and can confirm there is no rubbing.

You're unlikely to find someone else with that exact setup...time to break out the measuring tape and start stacking washers.

It's difficult to measure due to the camber curve and static camber angle combined, but yeah, I was hoping someone would have the exact setup. Oh well.

Park the car on a slope...that should get you close enough.

When did you last have an alignment? I run the same size PSS with an 18mm spacer. Have -2.5 degrees of camber in the back. Tires wear incredibly evenly. Also have the fenders rolled, but that wasn't necessary.

Update for anyone else in the future who has a similar issue after switching to PSS on the stock 18" 162 rims on a sport suspension E90.

I switched from 20mm spacers (rubbing, mostly on rear right side) to 15mm spacers, and there is no rubbing any more. I tested it on speed bumps and big dips at high speeds with no rubbing sounds or marks.

I am very happy now as it still looks great and has no functional issues (ideal solution). If anyone wants to buy my pair of 20mm spacers with brand new extended bolts, lmk. I might end up keeping them for my winters since the tires are narrow enough....lol
