NEED HELP: coilovers preload

I started installing a set of ST S3 coilovers and noticed that the springs on the front struts arent the same length. One had preload on it and the other spring was loss. What should the preload be and how should i measure it to make sure both are the same?

4mm preload, street application this isnt important

wouldnt the ride be more rough if the preload is too high? and the car will be less stable if they arent the same?

yes but at 4mm its barely anything, basically keeping the spring from rattling around. search around on youtube, its what most street applications are set at.
