45 Euros is pennies.
I wouldn't pay it though if it was my own car. I don't believe they can enforce it but unfortunately it seems like you have no choice. On a side note, their parking tickets are even cheaper. I remember it being 7.50Euro per ticket or something. Dirt cheap compared to London ticket prices.

It's true that the French won't bother trying to chase you for a speeding fine if you are in your own car. It's too much trouble trying to find out who you are from your number plate and they don't have reciprocal arrangements with the British on this matter.
But, as others have said, the fact that they found you via the rental company (easy for them to do) makes it a little different and I know that rental companies will always charge you for any costs you incur (parking ticket for example) but, I don't think the French police can prosecute a rental company for one of their cars speeding when it's hired out so therefore the rental company will incur no costs so you could just ignore it. Your only risk in ignoring it is not that the French authorities will pursue you, but that your rental company gets stung and stings you in turn. |
