sounds to me as if they're doing both setups.
But we will wait for a clear RB answer

FBO isn't necessary for a bigger turbo, you could put it on a stock car. You will need at least a tune to get the most out of it though and of course bolt ons will create even bigger gains than on a stock turbo'd car.

I am not exactly familiar with what makes a car a FBO? Can you share with me what would be needed?

Thanks,

Thanks. I ask because I am seeing many different people on here stating they have an FBO car but have different options that don't seem to add up to a true FBO.

Lol. Thanks but I knew what it stood for already. My question was what people define as an FBO car. I see many different set ups on here and they all claim to be FBO. Obviously, that can't be true.

I consider myself FBO. I've gotten it all minus meth and new turbos.

BMS plans to install this RB hybrid on their 2013 F30 335i automatic. So, we'll find out soon enough if and how well it can be tuned!

You just made my day! This is epic news and the price point is much closer to my range. Here's to 2014

I'm in MN, not too far from you. Would be interested in being a tester.

I don't own a F30 but I wouldn't run a piggyback tune with an aftermarket turbo. The JB4 can only monitor cylinder 1 and cannot change any DME setting which is out of the DMEs range. [EDITED THE CRAP IN THIS POST]

WTF are you talking about? Backend flashes have only been available for a few months and its been shown that the DME already does a great job of controlling what it needs to and letting JB4 do the rest. The Vargas has been ran and tested using only JB4 and the biggest restriction for that at the moment is being limited to boost due to the 2.5BAR which JB4 was only designed for. Terry is working on JB4 in conjunction with the 3.5BAR sensor now but Jeff isn’t ready to test that quite yet.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22563

What about all the other N54s running JB4?...nearly all of those guys are running RB in conjunction with JB4!

You guys need to stop posting speculations as it creates spin and confusion!

Piggybacks alone have been used with N54 larger than stock turbos for years at a time. Now with the free N54 flash they always add it in for the addl benefits it offers but its not like people were blowing up often before the free flash. It's a details business. BMS tuned the Vargas turbo on their N55 before the back end flash was ready without issue. I expect the F30 tuning will not be an issue either. What might become an issue on the F30 is the weaker transmission. Also BMS will have to develop JB4 ISO firmware for the F30 to allow proper control of the larger turbo.
