Test Drove the X6 50DM today.

Well for all you diesel fans, I took the X650DM out for a thrash today triple turbo, and to be honest for a car with 380BHP and 720NM torque is was a big disapointment not much faster if at all that the 330D M Sport I just sold.
It handled well and steering was light, it was not well insulated and the diesel noise was heard all the time.
I warmed it up well and then gave it everything in all but 7th and 8th, and it just was not that fast and the torque did not feel like 720Nm.

Could it have been the weight of the X6?, not sure what they weigh, but it will need to be much quicker than that for me to be interested in the 5 Series 50DmX should it ever come hear.

Funnily enough, I was behind one giving it the beans the other day behind a 911 on the M40. Someone pulled out between him and the 911, he sat on their arse until they moved over and then I'm assuming he floored it. Kept up with it very easily (at a safe distance considering his stupid driving) from there (65ish) until past ticking off speed. I backed off and he speed into the distance at frankly daft speeds.

Surely 5 series would be quite a lot lighter - X6 is half a tonne heavier than my 'off roader' :-) Aerodynamics also make a fair difference once you get up to speed.

That would make the difference if the 5 series was way lighter, I would need a long test drive before commitment though IF they ever come here.

Yes they said that but they may reconsider if they think there is Money in it.

There was a magazine comparison test between a M550d, 535d and Alpina D5. To my surprise the performance of the M550d was not as big compared to the 535d as the figures suggest.

I'd have bought it rather than my 335d. The boss is set on 4 or 6 cabrio next so may never get chance if they do bring it out!
