19's or 20's that is the question....

Hey peeps

I was toying with the idea of getting a set of new alloys.

The main question is I initially wanted 20's and then have it lowered, someone said the ride would be horrible. I currently have 19" 313's, should I just drop the car on these instead and if so what is better springs or coil overs.

My friend has a set of deep dish 20's with a lovely drop and it looks amazing..... Need suggestions

Lower on 19s mate.

20s are considerably harsher a ride so you've been warned lol

I have 313s like you & think the ride is horrific as it is. Can imagine 20s would be like having a knife shoved up your arse every time you go over a pot hole.

Get yourself some non run flat tyres, makes a huge difference.

Even with non run flats it's still as bad. I'm on my 25th BMW now & even on my previous e92 on 19s & non-rft's with the 255/30 rear profile tyres there's just not enough absorption for today's potholed roads. E46's &F30s are a lot better at copping with harsh road conditions due to the nature of the suspension set up on the e9*

So it seems like running 19" makes sense for a better yet still not a great ride. Suggestions on springs or coilovers?

Is there a particular type I.e. sports or performance springs that are better?

H&R are around £160 eibach seem to be popular as too shop around for the beat offers, I bought mine from Larkspeed for £158 (H&R) 50f 25r

You won't on your 313s with that drop I'm on 16 and 17mm spacers so have rolled the rear arch

I sometimes laugh when I listen to people talk about the ride on 20's; but have never run 20's on their own cars. Use to the same of stories about 19's when everone was driving on 15" and 16" alloys.

I have had 20's on my e93 for the past 2 years with non-runflats; lowered on Eibach Sportlines and the ride has surprisingly been better than when I was driving around on 19" MV4's with runflats with Msport suspension. In the two years of running 20's on London's road, I have not suffered one cracked alloy (touchwood) compared to how many hairline cracks that appeared on my MV4s in the few months I drive round on them.

I think the style 313 alloys are very nice and look great with a set of spacers and lowered.

Chose at the end of the day is yours.

I like the honesty and I appreciate that fact you actually run 20's. Have you got any pics of your car so I can see the drop and how it looks with the 20's?

No recent pics, but these where taken when I just fitted the Eibachs. The front has settled more since then.

I wanted 20s too, but opted for 19s, purely because I have to use the car for work as well, which involves driving on construction sites and down some fairly rural roads at times - so 20s didn't make sense.

TBH, the state of Surrey's roads, I'm worried enough about cracking a wide 19" rim, let alone a 20" with even lower profile tyres.

If my car was solely a weekend posing toy, I'd have gone the 20" route, as 19"s on normal tyres are significantly better ride than standard 18s on runflats.

Depends on your circumstances and what you use the car for, IMO.
