Shouldn't have to do this. Supposed to happen automatically.

What do you mean by "present" menu? Do you mean "preset" menu?

In any case, I can't begin to understand the problem you are having here. It sounds like you are saying that you have the preset screen up, and then you hit day/night, and the map doesn't come up. Why would it?
Nevermind, I figured out a fix and sorry I spelled a word wrong, preset was what i meant.

Sounds like a couple hours. Still here. Don't know how much time passed between giving them the car, and them actually starting the update.

OK. Got the car back and the shopping cart issue is definitely fixed. Nothing else was super-obviously different in the 4-5 miles from the dealer to my work.

Would be interesting if you get night view on the map automatically. As it is now you don't get night view automatically, and to see it at all you have to turn off the traffic updates (!)

It's not clear to me how that would/should work. Night mode is (still) just a checkbox in the UI, and I don't think the owners manual describes the automatic functionality (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I wonder if 'Automatic Night Mode' is really a feature enhancement that everyone agrees is obvious and should be there, as opposed to an existing documented feature that is broken.

Also, traffic updates still mute all the map colors as before. I think that's just a design choice that a lot of people don't like, versus something that's truly 'broken'.

Strange. Night view is very nice. Day view is too bright at night. Why should it have anything to do with whether or not traffic is on.. makes no sense.

I get the impression that perhaps the traffic view wasn't visible enough when overlaid on the standard map (too many colors) and so they decided that they would mute the map colors to make the traffic colors really stand out.

I don't like that view. I'm just saying I think it probably behaves as they designed it to, whereas the shopping cart icons issue was obviously a bug.

My God. Is that all there is in the software update? There are so many other bugs.

There's almost certainly more. But the shopping cart issue is the only major, always reproducible obvious problem I'm aware of. I'm sure there are other minor bugs fixed, but not mentioned in the service notice.

Alas, BMW doesn't put out a version/bug fix list with their releases.

I hope that more bugs than just that annoying shopping cart stuff will get fixed. I brought a list along with photos to my dealer, and he claimed that BMW was aware of all the bugs I identified, and that all would be fixed with the update.

Well, it appears that the night view/traffic bug is not fixed.
I know some people think that is not a bug, but a feature. If so, that is a terrible mistake.

I shouldn't have to choose between night view and traffic. Every other car with these features solved it. My old 2005 Acura got it working just fine.

Grrrrr

Mel, there is one alternative. I turned off "traffic view" but enabled "traffic icons" in the regular map. I've found that approache works just as well, and I don't get stuck with the grayscale maps.

Interesting. I'll try it. Thanks. I also documented problems in the software with photos. Hope some of those issues get squashed.

What is the difference between the traffic view vs traffic icons?

traffic view is grayscale with colored lines when there are traffic problems.

Traffic icons is the regular map, with all the colors, and special icons that denote traffic problems. For example, if the road is conjested, you see a bunch of diamond shapes alongside the road.

Ahhh I see. If you switch from the day to night or night to day do the local streets disappear? The only way for me to get them back is by changing the heights of the map, going from 800 to 400 back to 800. Does this happen to anyone else??

Are you sure about that? Like an above poster said, i don't remember seeing any description of that in the manual...but I certainly could be wrong. I also remember specifically asking my CA if it had that feature, since i was used to it with my acura (as were you i'm assuming), and he said no. Of course, the CAs certainly don't know everything about a car.

I'm glad I read this thread today. My car is currently in the shop (again) for another issue. I'll see if I can get them to fix the shopping cart issue too.

No, I'm not sure. I was assuming. And, as you know, when you assume you make an ass out of u and me. Sorry for the misinformation.
