Car Totaled:(
Hi guys,
Coming home from school someone failed to yield a unprotected green left. I saw it turned as hard as i could right and slammed on the breaks but ended up t-boning the car. My car did a 720; airbags deployed and so forth. Got out and couldn't see straight for about a 30 seconds. I then proceeded to go check on the other driver(who happened to be a hot ass cheerleader from my school). Cops came and I told them my story, she told them hers. She said I was speeding but also said she wasn't wearing her seatbelt. I said I was going straight at the posted speed and she failed to yield. Anyways cop said he thought it was a little of both our faults. Feel safe in those BMW's because they are SAFE. I loved my car and it made me cry seeing it hauled away. Being 17 my mom will probably never fall for buying her son another BMW, plus my insurance will most likely be +400 per month. It was a 325i E90 with 84k miles. Had 60k miles when I bought it for 16k in November of 2011. What are the recommendations for a reasonable quick car around the 10-14k price range? I am looking for something of equal or lesser size and good fit and finish quality with responsive steering feedback. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Last edited by BenġrTheBMW; 11-14-2012 at 12:14 AM.. Girl without seatbelt... sigh. For around 14k you can find another e90 depending on location. Just bring up the argument of how safe the car is... if that would work. If not i'd say e46.

Glad you are okay. Its amazing how cars have become safe now. From the picture, there was some speed, 15 years ago you'd be in a hospital or worse. Have yourself checked up tomorrow, sometime it takes a day or two for pain to develop and you may retain debilitating conditions (don't ask how I know...)
Now, you have learned a valuable lesson. Being right, having the right of way doesn't matter. No matter what, nobody's perfect, even good drivers do mistakes occasionally, thus someday somebody will do something stupid in front of you. It is just part of your mission as a driver to be able to avoid them (conversely someday you'll be glad that somebody was aware enough to avoid you and save the day). The fault is theirs, but with more awareness (by adapting speed to surrounding conditions and a capacity to "read" distracted drivers and suspecting anything that has a brain as a potential danger trying to suicide on you), an accident often turns into pointless rant against stupid drivers, or in the case, some sort of misogynistic comment on blond cheerleaders capacity at the wheel . The case for the car being safe is made. You walked out of it and the picture is not pretty. With that money you can get the same car, more or less. Should you get a Corrolla ? Actually a Corrolla is plenty fast. Well enough to get you in danger if you don't take responsibility for your safety and act defensive (no, defensive driving is not driving like gran'ma, its looking around at what's going on and being ready). Now, insurance premiums are gonna be tough on you if you get part torts. You could maybe consider some driver improvement program to get them to normal, good way to improve skills, often its fun, and you may save on the long run (and make your mom happy). |

Glad you're okay and yes these cars are incredibly safe I agree. Should have taken a pic of her car....and her lmao. But it should be her fault anyways 10-14k you can get a 330 or 325 again in that price range. I don't know why your parents wouldn't want you to get one I mean they're safe, and the 325 isn't too fast same with the 330. I mean I love the speed of my 330 but compared to newer cars on the road these days, it isn't crazy irresponsibly fast. As for insurance, look for a 4 door family car and if you have good grades that should lower it. That's what I did lol good grades and a 4 door and tell them that you just commute to school and thats all, you never go anywhere outside of town. I have liability so its around $200 here in California, full coverage is like $800-1000 at least for me, I'm 18 now got my license and insurance when I was 17.
As for the new car try narrowing it down. Do you want European, Japanese, or American? Euro- definitely another BMW, look into Audi too but they aren't too reliable, Mercedes is out of the price range they don't lose they're value quickly like BMWs. Japanese just too many to think of lol G35 maybe. American- mustang? but errr I wouldn't the older 06ish models are too cheap as for most American cars. I say try to convince your parents for another BMW, safest route. |

Pics of said girl (assuming 18+) or this thread needs to be closed and OP banned for life. You cannot simply state "hot ass cheerleader" then not back it up with solid proof. This will not be tolerated. |

Sorry to hear. I know how hard it is to see your car all torn up
Glad you're ok, but please remember to get yourself checked out by a Dr even if you feel ok. Back and neck injuries can take a while for you to notice. And I second the E46 suggestion.

I got into an accident where my bumper needed replacing and my hood needed repair. The guys Nissan sentra was totaled. These BMW's are incredible in terms of safety. I would push this hard to your parents.

Pix of said cheerleader or GTFO.
On a more serious note OP: bring up the fact that the Bmw kept you safe. Try to make that a big point of why you should get another one.

If my son was in an accident like that, and walked away from it. I would have no problem getting him that car again. You may want to pitch that to your mom man. Not sure you could walk away from that with no problems if that were say a corolla. Either way car is replaceable, but no sense in shelling 12k for a corolla and it will cost the same 12k for a used e36..even 14k gets you in a used e90
