getting tuned, knocking, please help.
Hi All,
i am getting my car tuned and just got a call that the car is knocking, they are still looking into it (its stock, except BMC drop in filter). Anyone had this problem and any of the below fixed it: 1- spark plugs 2- ignition coil packs 3- intake valve cleaning car is 2009 335i with 38,000 miles baseline on a dyno: ~280 hp ~290 tq edit: i was at a dealershjip yesterday and ofcourse they found nothing wrong, they are useless... Thanks |

Where are you getting it tuned? I would have started with a known tune that you can trust like COBB AP. then you can custom tune it going forward.
It's very hard to debug an issue without looking at some data...

If its knocking, then they are tuning too aggressive I would imagine. Perhaps you may want to go with a more popular tuning method? Contact me if you want to know what options you have.

Well it seems like everything is fine now, they said it was gas related, I got some bad sams club gas in there, After putting 2 gallons of 102 it made 350 whp at the wheels and 400 wtq , just the tune and drop in filter.

I would not accept them mixing in some high octane gas and claiming it was gas related.
High octane gas does a marvelous job of hiding issues that may be present with regular pump gas. |

Let me explain, wife took the car and was running out of gas and the closest gas station was sams club, I never get cheap gas, chevron, shell, Exxon, only top tier gas. The car is running great, It ran fine on octane 91 also the second time they put it on a dyno after they flashed the ecu.

Why would you go have it tuned with Sams club gas in it? Run it out first man!

damn, tough crowd here, i know i know, sams club gas sux, i would never use anything other than top tier gas. I didnt think about the gas much until they asked me and i realized that my wife filled it up with sams club.
Now onto the car, if you are looking to tune your car in Arizona, i would check dyno-comp in Scottdale, talk to Ken as he has 335i and is running the tune on his car for over 5 years without any problems. The car pulls like a freight train now, amazing http://dyno-comp.com/ Let me know if you have any questions. thanks |

STONE HIM!! Sam's Club gas? heh, glad it was an easy fix. I'd definitely run the tank down, put in your typical gas (I prefer Shell and BP), and have them recheck it. You can't be too careful, especially since summer and HOT temps are coming fast.
