DCT shifting to Neutral by itself?!

Not sure if this topic has been discussed and my apologies if it has.

Has anyone with a DCT tranny experienced the gear shifting itself to Neutral when the car is running cold? I've had a few occurrences when I'm waiting at the lights on the way to work and the idle drops to under 600rpm and the gear shifts itself to Neutral - like a safety mechanism? Then it revs up high to about 1000rpm and drops back down to idle range @ 660rpm.

Also, I'm not sure if this has got anything to do with it and the few times it has happened is when the car is in a bit of an incline? Weird. Not to mention the car next to me thinks I'm going to hit it at the lights!

What car is it? I have only ever seen it once where there is something to do with the door lock and the seatbelt buckle.

Oh OK. Could get a bit dangerous in intersections or turning out of a corner etc. Guess I'll just have to leave to warm up a bit more prior to driving out.

Ask you stealer or an indy with Autologic to do a software upgrade, we did one with similar issues and so far it has been fine.

happened only once to me. I really didn't like the feeling; when you want it to be in D for drive, you want to be able to put your foot down and it should go.

I don't think that it is normal at all.

This has happened to me numerous times, I also experienced like a jerking movement when rolling forward with the slightest throttle , took the car to BMW and I was told that the " software" was replaced. The car hasn't done it since but at idle cold or warm it revs higher round the 1000-1200 mark.

Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a 2011 E92 335i with N55 engine. I have to say I'm in love with the car, but yesterday I had this issue. I was on a red light and all of the sudden the revs went down and the transmission shifted by itself to neutral. I couldn't set it to direct, so I tried turning the car off and then re-starting it, no problems putting the gear in direct or manual after that. Does this issue have the risk of the car not starting again or not being able to set it to D afterwards?

I also noticed the launch control not always works, do you think this could be related?

Something else that happened to me twice already, is that the car wont start for no reason. I parked the car and once I returned and tried starting it, it made a click sound but the engine wont start; after one or two minutes it would start normally.

Do you think this issues are software related? I just got it 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to take it to a mechanic due to holidays and work, I want to take it this weekend but I would really appreciate your advice.

Thank you very much in advance.

Could be the dreaded cracked wires in the shifter assembly
