R1 concepts Brakes are not so great!!!
I bought a set from these guys. Drilled rotors, and supposedly upgraded pads that were supposed to last longer. I had my brake fluids replaced and that done by a friend who was an actual BMW dealer mechanic. I was told by R1 there would be some noises like squealing for the first 500 miles but that wasn't the case. There was no noise after the initial install for the next two weeks which was about 500-600 miles. It was the third week that it started making noises. At first it would happen sometimes. The squealing noise would come on when I am about to come at full stop. This happens after the car warms up. Ive been busy with school so I never had the time respond until out of random, R1 concept pm about me ordering things and I told them I already ordered and parts I ordered are already installed. I told them I had it about 2 to 3 months now and had squealing problems since. No reply. So folks watch out for these guys.

Thats strange. Which pads did you go with? I have their rotors and posiquiet pads and have had no problems or sounds with them since i put them on. Been about 3k miles on them.

I have the drilled/crossed ones for all fours and yes it definitely must be the pads. But what can I do? Take them off and use old worn out ones? Tried using those spray cans to help the noise but it came back.

R1 rotors are just rebranded centric rotors.
They are perfectly fine rotors. What pads do you have? DID YOU BED THE PADS IN?

+1 on the CRC brake quiet. Apply a generous amount of it on the whole surface where the pad makes contact with the caliper. Then let it dry for a good while, over-night is actually ideal (what I always do). Have never had a problem.
If this doesnt work for you then you can remove the guide pins on the calipers and clean them real good and lube them up and re-install. Also clean the sections where the pads slide on the calipers, and lube those sections up a bit too. You'll be golden. good luck! Last edited by iBoost; 12-08-2013 at 07:52 PM.. |

Rotors don't make noise. Anytime you hear brake noises that would be Brake Pad Feedback. The sound your hear is actually the brake pad vibrating against the caliper piston(s). You can note that if you were to apply heavy braking the noise goes away.
To solve this issue, we would recommend you visiting your local auto part store, ie: Autozone, Pepboys....etc, look for a product named "Disk Brake Quiet" apply a nice layer to the BACK of the brake pads. Be sure not to get any on the rotors. Once they get sticky (Semi-dry) go ahead and put them back on the car and the noise is gone. We personally would recommend the aerosol over the goop. |
