Track Has Higher Octane Gas Can I Switch JB3 Maps Then?

I'm planning to head back to the track soon and here in CA we only have 91 octane so I am currently using Map 3 on my JB3.

The local track has 96 and 100 octane. Would it be worthwhile to switch to say Map 5 if I were to dump 96 octane in o the car AT the track?

Will I need time for it to adapt to Map 5 or can I fill up and let'er rip...

Do a google search for high octane stations. At least in SoCal theres quite a few places that carry 93 or 100 octane. Then mix and match!

dude go there empty as possible. If the gas light is on even better. Add 1/2 a tank of 100 octane and put it on map 7. To hell with map 5. If u have any other mods like DPs or FMIC do map 8.

Some even run map8 on a stock car otherwise in cooler weather, lower elevations with 100 octane!!!
But if your worried about codes than dont run high maps, as per the JB3 Guide.

Our track, Houston Raceway Park, has 105, 110, and 112. I've run 3 gallons of 110 before. What is the limit we should stop at as far as octane is concerned.

The 110 and 112 are leaded gasoline's correct?

IMHO, I would stick with unleaded fuels and I believe the 105 is unleaded.

+1 thanks Sniz thats what I thought but I was not 100% sure.

105 (R+M/2) is the highest Unleaded Motor Octane Mix possible

Good to know! Then it was leaded.

Although the car ran fine (even smoother than normal), i'll avoid that again. I've also had no CEL's, dash lights, and the 02 sensors looked normal upon inspection. I plan to change my plugs this weekend and will post pics of what they look like.

i think leaded is ok once in a while but what it messes up is your injector seals in the long run and your catalytic converters.
Doesnt a little leaded gas clean the carbon build up though or is that wrong or the other way around.??

How much more power do you think you could make from say 93 octane to 100 octance?

Race gas is usually good for 15rwhp - 20rwhp depending on mods, conditions, etc. whether PROcede or JB3.

I remember getting flamed awhile back for replying in a thread that I hung decently (didnt get destroyed) next to a GTR about a month and a half ago from 50 - 120. He had a couple car lengths on me and was definitely pulling away when I shut it down. Maybe high octane leaded fuel contributed?

Running map 7, 110 race gas, UR CAI, w/ an intercooler. I was still terrible at the strip though and couldn't break into the lower 12's. But from a roll it pulled like a monster.

+1 Whats funny is although my car seems really fast at the track with race gas, as soon as I head home and hit the highway good lord the car seems like it opens up from a roll!

So I can do map 7...w/100 octane at the track?

The only other mod I have is Vishnu DCI's...what should I expect to run in the 1/4 mile on map 5 or 7 in ok weather conditions?

People will suggest different maps from a conservative 6 to a map 8 that in some people's views is too much with just race gas and DCI. Stick with map 7 and you should be fine.

In ok weather conditions expect anything between a 12.4 and 12.9 depending on weather, your driving, and map selection.

I think with map 7 and race gas if you dont break into 12s its poor driving cuz the car is more than capable.

Map #7 should be fine. I'm just running map#7 on 91 octane, and right now with my car not running up to par, it is still turning 12.8 @ 111.8 with 19" Generals. Hopefully that will go well above 113mph once I put my new plugs in. But 100 octane should be fine. I still think it is best to drive it and make a few WOT runs on the higher octane before you 1/4 mile runs, unless you have unlimited and frequent runs where you can let it break in more in each successive run.
