Carbon Leather or Piano Black trim?

Hi,

I hate my cubed silver trim, so I'm replacing it! It's between Carbon Leather or Piano Black!

I've not seen them in the flesh, so what do you guys think? I've read black shows all the dust, finger prints etc & that might annoy me!?

I hate my wood trim, I would say the piano black is sexier.

Just started to think to myself that the Piano Black would be hard to keep before I finished reading. My parents BMW has wood trim and even its very hard to keep clean. Although personally I'd still pick Piano Black.

This is what is putting me off, I don't want to be cleaning it every week! I don't think I've ever cleaned the cubed trim - that's the only advantage to silver!

Piano black is definitely the best finish... i am not biased because i have it

But it is hard to keep clean. No one touches it, but it collects dust, but 5 second wipe with a microfibre whilst at the lights and its all gd again

Are you buying new trim, wrapping it or having it dipped or painted?

I ask as with the cubed alli trim its hard to get a good finish with the wrap due to the textured finish.

I had mine matt carbon wrapped and it looks great.

I can get hold of the CL from a broken M3 or i was originally going to purchase a set of wood poplar trim & have it painted by shades!

Also with the Carbon Leather I'll still need a new centre console & have it painted as the M3 console is different!

I suppose it doesn't matter now..... I've just paid for the Carbon Leather! I think the black looks better but I'm far to lazy to keep it clean!

Anything is better than the silver / aluminium trim.... maybe not the wood tho!

The carbon leather arrived & in a typical breakers yard buy.... before I open the parcel, I said my usual prayer that it's in good condition!

Guess what....... it was damaged & on the dashboard piece = in plain view! Typical breakers yard shite! So I returned it!

He has listed it on eBay, so I would avoid:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2612938110...84.m1438.l2649

So I've sourced the wood trim & going down the painted piano black route!

Have to say there is a small amount of piano black trim in the F30 Sport I've currently got as a loan car and I find the reflections really annoying and distracting. Each to their own but this has confirmed that it's not for me at least...

Hey Jammy.

I too, like Josh, have black piano. Its loveand hate really. EXACTLY as Josh said as per the mocrofibre cloth, 5 secs and good as new, but at the same time the frequency of which this needs to be done gets annoying. Also when REAL sunlight hits it there will always be light surface scratches visible, fair enough yours will be a fresh spray but even wiping down with micro fibre can cause.

I was going to get mine carbon dipped. But again will have that shiny finish like the piano black and therefore will also be hard to maintain so have decided against it. And its twice the price of having it wrapped.

I have decided to just get wrapped in matt carbon by shades, cheap, and gives effect of the carbon leather as per no smudges/surface scratches easily showing up.

Also remember the piano black is quite temperamental and bendy compared to to the ali trims, for this reason thinking of sourcing ali trims to get wrapped if can cheaply

Thanks for the honest review! Just what I thought.... I don't think I'll be able to cope with this! Looks like the carbon fibre hunt is still on or maybe wrap this wood trim?

Cheers

Jammy. I can wrap you trim any colour you want. I have a carbon cloth material that is almost like a mix between carbon and leather. I have lots of samoles if you want to see it. Paint is all well and good but will scratch and chip just like paint and its then not a case of removing the trim and re wrapping again.

Give me a call tommorrow and ill ho through it if need be.

I can't get into CF Vinyl... Dipped or real CF - yeah, that can look lovely... the wrapped stuff just never looks quite right to me...

Shame that the CF Leather was damaged... that would have looked lovely
