I actually went to Lizard Skinz in Columbus to ask them to do it, and they said they wouldn't do it because it wouldn't stay on the chrome. I told them they were full of shit, but they didn't listen. I went ahead and ordered the vinyl myself and I'm going to probably do it this weekend.

That's the place. The guy was actually kinda rude to me when I went, and that pissed me off. I had called prior to going to explain what I was looking to do. The guy that answered the phone understood what I was trying to do and said that they could do it, no problem. I just needed to bring the car by so they could give me an accurate quote. So, I drove 30 minutes there to show them the car and that's when they told me that they wouldn't do it. Something about the vinyl not sticking to the chrome (I call bullshit). I even told the guy that people do this all the time and I really didn't give a shit about any kind of warranty; if it came off after a year or two, I was fine with that. It didn't matter. They just came off as simply not wanting my business, and just made up excuses to get me out of there.

I wasted over an hour of my time to go by there and get this stuff done. I had to take time off of work to do it too, so that little trip cost me over $100. I won't be doing business with them at all.

That really surprises me...
Went to Spade today (35 mins away) to see what they could do. I asked the cost for my trim around the windows, the vertical components of the windows, and my interior trim (want to ditch the aluminum and vinyl wrap the loose burl walnut pieces I have). We walked through everything and he said "well, doing this, this and this, you're looking at $1200 and $1500. Well then we're going to have to do this this and this too so out the door you're looking at around $1800 but certainly no more than $2000." Jesus christ....please tell me this is not the going rate for vinyl work. I thought people were paying $2000 MAX for ENTIRE car wraps. Am I wrong?!?

This really sucks you guys. Is there REALLY no one within 90 miles from here that can do this shit? I just don't have time to do it myself and I'm certainly not going to have time to drive to Chicago or something either. Really disappointed.

There's no reason for you to have to drive to Chicago. Why would you go that far away? There has to be tons of places a lot closer than there to go to. And as far as you not having the time to do it yourself... How do you have the time to let someone else do it, but not have the time to do it yourself? It's kinda hard for be to believe that you can't carve out an hour or two to do it and save yourself a boatload of money. As far as me doing it for a fee, how do you have the time to drive to Columbus and back to Cincinnati, but not the time to wrap your vinyl?

I was going to pay someone else to do mine because (1): I want it done correctly and professionally and (2): I'm a pretty lazy individual and if I can pay someone else to do it, then I'll do that rather than do it myself. Since the first place I talked to pissed me off, I'm just going to do it myself.

Get yourself some Rapid Tac and some squeegees and knock it out. Grab the vinyl from ShadowlineTrim.com and you'll have spent a grand total of something like $40.

I guess I kind of contradicted myself on the timing thing. I guess ultimately what it comes down to is that I just want someone who is confident in their abilities to do it. I don't want to tackle it myself if I've never done anything like it. So for me, your #1 below applies to me. I wouldn't consider lazy being a reason for me not to do it, but I certainly don't want to F it up and then pay for MORE material and continue to try. See the lack of confidence there? I just want it done once and that's it.

It's putting a sticker on your car, it's not rocket science. If you use something like the Rapid Tac, it actually floats the sticker above the place you're putting it until you push the liquid out with a squeegee. There's tons of videos on YouTube showing you how to do it, and if you screw it up, the whole roll of vinyl is less than $20. It's really a quite simple thing to do and it's near impossible to really screw it up.

Greg, let me know if you end up finding someone else to do it. It is funny you mention that is how that place treated you as I went there a few years back to see how much it would cost to wrap my roof in black vinyl. They made it sound like they did not want to do it at all and I believe quoted me an outrageous price, probably to get me out of there as well. I figured if they wrap whole cars/trucks/vans for advertising, why could they not do a roof or a whole car in a single color. IMO, it would be even easier since nothing has to be custom printed. But, maybe that is what they are looking for.... People to pay for the custom designs, then get them printed through them, then applied. Who knows. I ended up doing the roof myself with the help of my tint buddy at the time. It actually was pretty simple. The hardest part was cutting the vinyl.

Like I said, I'm just going to do it myself. The easiest way to cut the vinyl for a roof would be to work from the center out, leaving the backing on the vinyl while you work. Bond the center, then work towards the edges. When you reach the edge, leave the backing on the vinyl and take a brand new razor to cut the vinyl, but not all the way through the white backing. That takes a feather touch, but you don't cut into the paint.

I just went out to clean the trim and noticed that the only way to do this properly is going to be to pull the side mirrors off the car, and I really don't feel like doing that today, so I'll take another look at it next weekend.

That is the most ridiculous quote ever. For that price, you can buy brand new gloss black shadow line from BMW! Hope you laughed in their face!

Have you considered getting them painted? I think you can actually get a paint shop to sand prime and paint them. Obviously most expensive than vinyl wrapping but good lord, $2k is stupid!

Listening to this guy give his whole sales pitch and fumble through explaining the process was just painful. Such a waste of time.

For those of you who arent on the Cinci BMW Owners Facebook page, I suggest checking it out. I just posted on there and asked about vinyl wrapping. Looks like there are a few guys in the Cinci area that do it. You may want to check there and get in touch with those individuals.

Proper subframe reinforcement and avoiding SMG are the main items in my book.
