1989 BMW paint correction...

This is a very swirled up car, but it is driven daily and the owner didn't think I could do too much with it.

I took pictures with the owner's P&S Nikon, but don't have them yet. However I took some with my cell phone.

The trunk (terrible repaint) is done and the 2 sides of the hood.

PROCESS

Wetsanded some areas of the hood 2000/2500

HD UNO - 2250 rpm white scholl wool pad
HD UNO - 2100 rpm HD UNO orange pad
HD UNO - Flex 3401 speed 6 green ccs pad

ZAIO - Flex 3401 blue ccs pad
FK1 1000 by hand
Magic Wax by hand

DAY 2

Rained today, had the car pulled in and used the rain water to clay the car.

That was step 1

I sanded the front of the hood in the middle with 2000 Meg's paper first.

Step 2

HD UNO Black wool 2200rpm
HD UNO Orange HD pad 1800rpm
HD UNO Green ccs pad flex speed 6
ZAIO Green pad flex speed 6
MAGIC WAX Black 3m pad pcxp speed 6

Took about 6 hours to finish, the passenger door was very very bad and had to do 3 passes with wool. I was also rushing towards the end because someone wanted to go home.

Untouched side

Polished side

Worst Panel

After (3 passes) all polishing steps

After waxing, but the pictures are so so or worse.

The important thing is that the car looks a little better now.

Thanks Everybody for your kind words.

Toad - only part of the hood was sanded - the front (about 12" across) and some random scratches on the right side of the the hood in the middle.

Ah, guess I missed that. I would have been apprehensive to do that on an aged car without knowing how much clear was available to work with.

Last year I wet sanded a red 635 to remove the entire clear coat from the car. Couldn't talk the owner out of it, but had wonderful results.

Did you mean Orange peel? I hope!

This car's hood was repainted and I always measure the paint so that I know what I have to work with.

No, I mean the actual clear coat was sanded off & then color coat buffed. The clear coat was beginning to show signs of breakdown & rather than a repaint we went ahead and sanded it off.

I always measure since you never know what the last detailer removed.

+1

Impressive work, I would have thought those swirls were a lost cause.

Whats up with the blinged out e46 in the background with those scissor doors?

Thank you guys!

The car is owned by the owner of the shop annd I doubt that it will ever get any new mods.

The 7 series is a 100% show car and I believe the shop put on an air suspension.
