Has anyone done the European n52 Airbox
The change from the NA version to Euro part #13717552437 Looks very interesting. Comes with a filter and the MAF as well, which is a nice touch. Not bad for under $400.00.
Would love to know if it's worth any real gain. Filter certainly looks easier to change. Whole assembly looks a lot bigger and nicer that the US spec unit. |

A bunch of threads on this starting way back in 2010 or 11...

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

It is nice, but the MAF is a different model, with a different connection. Don't assume you can use it.

I did it on my wife's car. Improved fuel economy a bit and the car revs easier. This is how the US 328i should have come stock.

ECS says you have to use the old MAF for US cars.

I had it in my 328 but I used a K&N filter. You HAVE to use your old MAF sensor with it, the one that comes with the box looks completely different and won't work.
Now for the results. Butt Dyno Gains: I would say the car felt a bit peppier but I also had the perf exhaust, tune, and 3 stage manifold. The box does look way nicer then stock and its design makes it way easier to get to the filter.. Real world results: Very little, if any, gains over the stock air box. Stock air box is fine, just cut out that charcoal filter from it.. |
