2008 335XI Angel eye upgrade question.
I'm a noob in to bmw headlights, but I am looking to upgrade the yellow halogen AE.
I've read many threads about it, and got me a bit confused. For 2008 335xi E90 with xenon. What's my best bet? I heard there's a bmw factory retrofit that gonna cost me lots of money. Or the simple light bulb switch like Mtec or Lux, are they as simple as described to just switch the halogen bulb? or are there any coding involved, how reliable are they? cuz last thing i want is to screw the car with error code and wiring. Also do i need to install anything else before i can fit the Mtec/Lux bulbs? Thank you for any replies, and sorry if i miss read some threads and got the wrong idea. |

The only thing with aftermarket ones you just need to ask the seller if the ones they sell are code free. I think most of them are but if it does not say they are code free ask before you buy.
They are just plug and play, I have some on my 335xi |

MTEC V3 or LUX 5.2 are your high quality LED options. No errors, 50,000hr life, runs cool, it's the way to go. It is a direct swap like changing a bulb, all hardware is already there. Let me know if you want to know more

Thank you all very much for the fast reply!
I know people here bought the bulb from E90 lightings. I think i am going to get a pair of Mtec v3. Might have more questions if i run into trouble installing 'em. Before I started this thread, I called a local bmw specialist to see if they can install it for me if i provide the bulb, they basically refused to do installation, because lots of issues arises from it (coding/wiring), and suggested a factory retrofit option is the way to go. Now i'm pretty convinced lots of people here don't seem to have any problem, that made me more confident of trying it myself. |

Forgot to mention, the reason the BMW shop is saying coding is required is because they arn't programmed to run as DRL's. Right now your inner halogen bulb runs during the day. To avoid coding, all you have to do is shut your DRL off through iDrive or the blinker stalk, and switch your parking lights on.

So I have changed the angel eyes got some comparison photos of mtech and oem.
One question though after the upgrade I noticed that driver side xenon headlight is blueish and the passenger side Is little yellow. It shows only at an angle, i heard bmw adjust their headlight in different angle on purpose? Last edited by keni; 08-06-2012 at 08:24 PM.. |
