My JB4 Experience
Hey guys, so I know there are threads everywhere on this site about reviews and comparisons, but I just wanted to share my experience.
I bought my 335 a month ago to this day actually and instantly fell in love with it. Coming from a G35 coupe, this car felt like a beast. I instantly got bit by the mod bug and started looking for things to do. Got my DCI right away and started making a list for what to do next. I knew I wanted a tune but I was stuck on Cobb for ease of install. After looking at this forum for hours on end each day, I came across a JB4 PnP for a great price and decided to just go with it. I was nervous about the install even though people told me it was easy. Well, I really shouldn't have been. The install wasn't bad at all. Took a little over an hour, but that was mostly because I had a hard time getting the clips off the ECU. As for actually installing the JB4, piece of cake! After getting it installed, I took it out for a ride on Map 5. HOLY CRAP! This thing is ridiculous. I was expecting a difference but nothing this big. So I guess the moral of the story is if your worried about getting a JB4 vs Cobb for install purposes, don't be! I was the same way, but don't regret it all. The functions on the JB4 are fantastic and the tune is great. I can't speak for the Cobb, but I have heard it is also an awesome tune. So this isn't a comparison telling you which one is better, but rather some input from someone who was on the fence purely for install reasons.

Thanks guys. Still not sure whether to run map 1 or map 5. Seems like there are a lot who think one is better than the other.

Try both maps and keep it on the one you feel is better...for me Map 5 was a lot smoother but your results may vary..

Map 5 should be fine for you, since it auto tunes to whatever mods you have...

Thanks for the help guys, I'll probably just leave it on map 5 since it seems to be running great. Now I need to get some DP's and and FMIC, but I'm too scared to go FBO with warranty.

How is the reliability of meth? To be completely honest, I really don't know much about it at all. I'll have to look into it.

I would do that over fmic, because it gives more power and similar benefits. But look into it and see whats best for you. |

Beyond a doubt, meth is your next biggest bang for the buck. Downpipes and intercooler will bring marginal benefit. With the ability to run higher boost safely, meth will bring you 40+ HP gains.

I had the basic Coolingmist/BMS trunk mount kit with the JB4 FSB controlling it.

Congrats... I came from a fbo 350Z. Big difference! My 335i stock would probably walk around my modded Z and now that it's modded, my Z could have never came close to this without spending" thousands of thousands" of dollar on a turbo kit.

Thanks for the write up. I came from an 06 g35 coupe as well. Just pickeed up my e92 335I (big difference from the g35) a few weeks ago was a little worried about breaking into the ecu for the JB4 install. This makes me feel a little better about the install and it will be going on soon. BTW, I see your car is an 07 as well. How many miles do you have on it and were there any negative effects with the jb4, ie misfires??

My e90 has 56k miles on it and so far so good. Running just as good as it was stock. I'll keep you updated if anything changes!
Btw, good luck with the install. You're going to LOVE it
