I mean the cost to benefit ratio sucks...6-8 hp for 1000$ my jb3 cost 800 and I got 60+ hp to the wheels. Mufflers and piping cannot be that expensive, there need to be some 600-700 dollar options out there.
We are VICTIMS thats why they are expensive. The companies are benefitted from our passion to make our cars look & sound better.
The actual cost of mufflers cant be more than 100-200$.

+1
Exactly but we can dictate the prices that we are willing to pay for items, we just need to be vocal about the cost of certain items, either way some company needs to step it up and cut the costs and give us better options on the cost of exhaust...yes we drive expensive cars but the reason most us can drive them is because we have been smart and thifty with investments and everyday life. Why should that change with perfomance parts?

Cause many of us are very passionate on our cars (like the kids with their toys) and we pay every penny needed.

I can understand some exhausts being pricy if they come from Europe, but US made stuff shouldn't be that much. When I got my car, I assumed $800-$1k would be the highend. In all reality, thats the low end...

Thats the reason why companies can over charge anything..As long as it gets a favorable critique, it will sell regardless of the price....If an OP feels its too pricey, there will be countless others that wouldn't care because their mod whores...Demand for the fanatics of cars out weigh the ones that just want to drive thier cars stock!!!

Supply and Demand. Stop buying their products and they will have to drop the price. Econ 101.

How was my response smart ass? We have full dual exhaust, from the turbo's back. If you come from a WRX, it's a single from the turbo back. Multiply that exhaust price by two and you'll see the BMW exhaust isn't that expensive.

Well I would say that some exhaust systems are worth it because maybe its made from high quality material such as titanium or the construction of it like the welds are flawless.

But the main reason why I think our bmw exhaust are more expensive is because the manufacturers think, "hey if they paid 50k for the car, they must have money to pay for a 2g exhaust." I came from JDM cars and the exhausts are way under 1g, unless its full titanium and from a well respected JDM company. The quality was good too. Don't get me wrong though...One thing I learned from modding up my cars ever since I can remember is...If you got a nice car, don't put crap parts on it because its cheap to buy. You paid for $50,000 car so you should be high quality parts on it.

But IMHO, since I am more of a "GO" rather than "SHOW" person and as far as my 335i is concerned, an exhaust is something I would rather go custom because gains aren't worth the money. But other than exhaust, all my other modifications to the car are going to be high quality functional parts. But thats just my opinion...you might have different preferences or wants...so do you want you want to do!

I personally think the prices are laughable and the markup out of this world. I'll be having a system fabbed or just going dp's.

this thread has gone in the wrong direction, I am talking about most of the exhaust systems that are actually just a MUFFLER WITH PIPE EXTENSIONS...Look I understand that everyone is proud of whatever exhaust they have purchased it just seemed that alot of the exhaust systems seem over priced...I guess that my opinion is that of the minority..and I guess I am screwed because I will probably be buying an M5 next year

I can understand the high price but it looks like the pipe on the right side is hanging low and is probably viewable from the rear.
