2009 CIC Update
Hi everyone, I have the early LCI 330d with SAT NAV CiC. It is running the 2008 Europe Pemium maps, and are really outdated. The problem I have is the cd player does not read discs, so cannot update that way. Can anyone on here update my CiC to the latest version? And possibly fix the cd player?
Regards, Martin. |

The USB update may not work because his car may not have the right level of ISTA/P to use the USB map update. As indicated in Dracon's thread:
If your vehicle was built 03/2010 and later, the USB version is the recommended version. If your vehicle was built between 09/2009-03/2010, you will need a firmware update to update using any method (USB or DVD) due to a bug in the firmware. You are welcome to try, however the update will most likely fail at 93.7% and abort updating. If you vehicle was built before 09/2009, you can only use the DVD version of the update to load the maps into your vehicle unless your vehicle firmware has been updated by a dealer sometime past 03/2010. Then you can use the USB version if you wanted. |

My E92 was built in 2/09 but the firmware was updated by the PO. Dragon can run your VIN, see if it's good to go but it can be a pain to update via USB. It took hours to download the files, unstuff them, copy to USB drive and upload onto the car.

My 11-08 build e90 LCI 335d had zero issues with updating maps via USB in the glovebox. Try the USB in the glovebox first before you go ripping apart anything.

The update requires the use of ISTA/P and an ICOM with MOST bus interface. Attempting to update the CIC with an ICOM emulator will fail and likely brick the CIC in the process.
I'm in the same boat with my '09. It has the original firmware from 2008 and does not recognize the maps on the USB port. I've debated the purchase of an ICOM as the dealership wants almost $400 to do the update. This is compounded by the fact that I have considered a Combox retrofit. If they update to the very latest software, this also complicates things. |

Tried another flash drive (16 gb), but no luck. Don't have the checkmark on the circle in the lower left corner, so I'm fairly certain it needs an update, but was worth a shot to try again.

That's probably because Windows 7-8-10 default formatting 32gb and larger USB drives as exFAT not FAT32 and the CIC navigation systems can't read exFAT formatted media (NBT and newer systems can however).

What's weird though is that it read it fine in the console USB, but wouldn't pick it up in the glovebox USB port.

The glovebox USB port is connected directly to the CIC, the console USB port is connected to the Combox/MULF in the trunk. The console USB is never processed by the navigation itself, the combos does all the decoding of audio and send the audio data to the navigation. |
