New e92 Introductions and N55 Exhaust Options

Hi guys, I'm new to the e92 platform, and to the n55. I'm coming from a e82 with an n54, and my previous mods are still in my signature below.

I'm looking to install an exhaust, and want sound similar to what I had in my 135i. I don't ever plan on going kittyless dps. On my 135i I had secondary cat delete, res delete, and a berk sport axle back. I thought that setup was perfect. I see that the n55 335i does not have a resonator or secondary cats, so its really leaving me with picking the best muffler.

That said, I have one question, does going with a cat back exhaust offer any improvements in performance by having larger diameter piping?

I've narrowed my options down to the following (not in order):

Eisenmann Race
Remus Race ( I can't seem to find the race version though??)
BMW performance
Borla agressive Catback

I'm looking for some feedback from people who have used any of these setups.

The signature I want is throaty with gurgles and pops at deceleration around 2-3k rpm. I want it to scream at WOT, but be "tame" during cruising. I can accept a bit of drone, and actually want to hear the purr at idle. I want it to be noticeably louder, to the point where I'm arming/setting off car alarms in parking garages lol. I really like the german sound signature and prefer it to the boomy, bassy sound of some exhausts, HKS for example. Appreciate the help, and thanks in advance.

Get a Bmw performance exhaust

If you want it substantially louder then a BMW performance exhaust wont be enough for you. Also if you want the pops and burbles, you should prioritize the PPK flash which really emphasizes those. The exhaust alone will not do the burbles justice.

I have a Remus Race. Got it because it was quad and sounded deeper than all other exhausts I sampled on Youtube. Very loud when your on it, subtle when driving casually, and hardly any drone. It is still my favorite addition to the car and would buy it again if I had the chance.

My buddy has the Remus and it's nothing compared to my PE honestly. It's all about taste too though. I like it paired up with my catless DP and no secondary cats.

Also, there are no performance gains unless you go a big single turbo you may want to swap the exhaust out.

If you want it to make fun noises on decel and but keep the drone down while cruising, you could do the PPK flash and a less-aggressive exhaust. The PPK flash adds those noises and gives you a bit more boost, it's not a super aggressive tune but you can stack other tunes with it and retain the sounds.

I used to have a 135is which came stock with the BMW PE and PPK flash, and it sounded great but was a bit drone-y on the highway. On my 335xi I have a catless DP with the stock xDrive catted midpipe and mufflers. I added some nicer looking tips to the stock mufflers. With this setup it's not quite as loud as my 135is was, but it has a nice tone overall, sounds racy on acceleration, and has the burble when letting off the gas. BUT, much less drone on the highway, thanks to the flapper valve in the stock driver side muffler.

I'm assuming you want to avoid a catless DP because you're in California, so yeah, you might want to get a bit more of an aggressive muffler setup than me. But if you want it to be tame during cruising, the easiest way to do that is to keep that flapper valve. Before I decided to keep my stock mufflers, the only aftermarket exhaust I found that retained the flapper valve was the B&B Touring (part # FBMW-1025).

You could probably combine it with some sort of midpipe if you want. B&B makes a midpipe (part # FBMW-1027) but you may be able to mix-n-match with other brands.

Do you know if the remus race is still available? I've only seen remus sport exhaust? Also, and this may just be the pictures I've seen online, but do you have any issues with the quad pipes fitting? It looks like the dual pipes aren't level and it may touch the aftermarket quad diffusers. Thanks.

the PPK is tempting, but I'd only ever realistically consider Dinan or PPK. So I might as well go Dinan and get the extra performance. I don't think you can stack Dinan, but let me know if thats not correct.

Yes it was a direct comparison as he has a catless DP as well. Personally, I've always felt the PE to have more of a growl than the Remus. Just depends what you're looking for noise wise.

You're persuading me toward the PE. I did some more research last night, and I may do PE and PPK, then add JB4 at a later date. If I do Dinan, then I wouldn't get the PPK.

Get the PE, under normal cruising it's quite but noticeable. You'll enjoy the loud rumble under acceleration trust me. No point in doing the PPK when the MHD tune is going to allow for you to get burbles with their software. It will be out before Xmas. Its around $400 for everything with their tune. Well worth it for a great flash tune with so many capabitlies over the Dinan and PPK. JB4 is a great product but I prefer a flash over a piggyback system.

Interesting, I'll have to look into MHD. Do you know if they plan to be compatible with 2013 335i?

Yes. Few people are saying beta will open in 3 weeks and MHD said it'll be available before Christmas.

You'll have to send your dme to be opened then shipped back so you can use MHD at that point for anything over 3/12 I believe. You'll have to check the thread.

I plan on doing this. It's essentially half a pe exhaust that you can control when you want it obnoxiously loud and when you want it quiet.

hmmm what about a valved straight pipe no mufffler? Would i need the positive or negative pressure valve? Does nyone forsee any problems with drone possibly?
