Turbo going out? Need advice?

Hey guys I have a 07 e92.
I was looking over my car while changing the oil yesterday looking at the downpipes and the rear turbo. It had oil around it. It was before the oil change so I haven't touch it yet. I have wastegate chatter ONLY on cold starts.

Turbo siren has been going on slightly even when warm too.
Now I'm stuck. Lol. The car runs smooth and holds boost well. I have white smoke out of my exhaust when I stop at a red light also. It's more lately. When I rev it up they don't sound like they used to too. Chatter noises.

Anyways idk what to do. The car runs excellent. Literally haven't had ANY problems with it til now. (I'm about at 56k miles)

Do you guys think my turbos are on their way out??
Should I just wait til they are done or replace them now. I have a chance to replace them for a phenomenal deal so idk if I should jump on it yet.

Thanks for the advice

I'd replace them now and buy OEM turbos from me since I have an extra set.
Don't ask me why I have two sets of turbos (set 1, 2011, has 12K miles, set 2, 2010, has 27K miles)

Pull the downpipes and check for oil around your turbine or in the housing. The oil on your downpipes sounds like it might be coming from a different source, not the seals themselves leaking. You shouldn't notice oil externally if that were the case. Is their any oil around the turbo's oil feed or drain lines?

Also, siren sound isn't a cause for concern.

Siren noise isn't a concern? I thought it comes from the turbos being over worn?
Ill check the downpipes this week. Hopefully they are dry.

Aren't your turbos still covered under warranty?

Yes and no lol. They are covered if I have "EXCESSIVE" turbo rattle. Which I don't it kinda sucks. That's the only way they'll cover it

I just had my turbos replaced probably a month ago. They will replace it if you have turbo whine. Especially when they see oil around the turbos, and that you are smoking out the exhaust. I did NOT have WG rattle when I had mine, not even on cold starts.

They replaced my turbos because of the siren under the "wastegate" warranty. I hardly had any rattle at all.

Wow, only 56K and the turbos are going... The turbo failure seems very inconsistent, considering I am at about 81k and mine seem fine. I would wait for Vargas to release the stage 2 turbos, or wait for the stage 3.

Yeah It sucks man. But I guess I have about 30k hard driven tuned miles on it. But still never thought it would go out so soon. I would wait for the Vargas but everyone is waiting and waiting and blah blah no time for that lol. I'm happy with the power output I can get with my mods+tune.

Idk. That's a good question. I'm sure it's only at the dealer.

M54,

Typically all BMW Warranty claims CPO or factory have to go through the BMW dealer network for re-imbursement. Aftermarket warranty purchased through a dealer BMW or private can be taken anywhere as long as the initial paperwork was filled out accordingly. Some dealers put them as the only eligable claimaints. Some dealers may subcontract to other shops if they are too busy, or for example a heavily modded car...this is a rare case though.

Hope this answers your question.

Wait for turbos....

The siren could be your DVs leaking too. The oil might be from your valve cover gasket. Unless there is oil in your turbine housing (take the DPs off to check) I'd be very surprised of your turbo(s) is/are going bad... Good luck!

Ok guys, similar problem.
I have raceland DPs, 2ndary cats removed and I'm @ 56k miles.
Problem is, as soon as I removed the secondary cats I had BLACK smoke coming from my exhaust until today. I had the valve cover gasket replaced at 40k miles.

What do you guys think I could be?

my thoughts as well.

OP, if you do take it in for the dealer to warranty them, make sure you take off the c@tless downpipes and put the stock DPs back on. Very important....unless your SA is a family member.

My SA is a really really nice guy I was honest with him from the day I met him about mods and tunes. He always took care of me.
