That really was the point of my observation: there are a lot of non-poor young people on this forum.

I'm 23, this is my 6th car as well. I just want to say I'm sure some people on these forums have not been spoiled, but rather worked there ass off, kept minimal debt and invested wisely! I myself have never received hand outs from my parents. I started banking right after high school and worked my way up quickly. Currently, I'm 23 and I'm a branch manager Trainee with CIBC, Just came over from being a Mortgage Specialist with ATB Financial for 2 straight years prior. Having such strong job stability and significant income at my young age I was able to buy such a beautiful beast No hand outs here. |

Another approach to this is to realize that rather then thinking most young BMW owners being spoilled.. they could just have Mass amounts of debt! With financing rates being at all time lows, and dealerships now being much more lienient with there financing qualifications I.e total debt service ratio's, verifying income / cutting corners to ensure clients receive financing... there are lots of young owners who simply have to sign a piece of paper then get stuck with 4 - 600 a month payments.

I think you folks got the wrong impression. I'm making no judgments. I don't mind that anyone be spoiled, and it's perfectly fine if anyone's parents did give them their car (whatever kind of car it is) for I gave my kid a car. As I said, I meant spoiled in the sense of having a good deal of disposable funds. I don't think that's really an inaccurate observation.
I'll be the first to admit that as a parent, I feel quite spoiled. But that's in the sense that I have three great kids who do what's expected of them and who make me quite proud. I guess too that I feel spoiled because I have been blessed with the ability to provide for my family in the way I always dreamed I would like to. It's great that one's family can give one a head start and make having things somewhat easier. There's nothing wrong with that; it's one reason parents work hard. Finally, I never asked how anyone came by their cars. I just wondered how one goes through so many so quickly. Doing that is such a foreign experience to me. I've had a family (wife and/or wife and kids) pretty much since I got out of college, so the great majority of my funds, when I was young, went to providing for them. So though I've pretty much always bought decent cars, I also hang/hung on to them for a long time (10-12 years or more) and spent my money (over the years) on homes, vacations, educations, investments, art, and other stuff. Sure, were I to suffer an automotive misfortune, I'd replace the ruined car with another decent car, but I wouldn't voluntarily get new ones every year or even couple of years. So, I was just wondering what happened that such young folks have been through as many cars in just a few years as I go through in 25 or more years.
