Alarm system upgrade

Hi folks,

Just thought I would start a new topic for upgrades to the OEM alarm system to help protect your pride and joy

I've read current existing threads
In particular this shock sensor install
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45815

A bit of googling reveals that DEI do a microwave motion sensor the 508D.

A bit of eBaying and I now posess such a unit. I fitted it today using the wiring guide described in the above thread.

It works well adding much needed sensitivity to the OEM alarm

I am looking at designing additional kit that will disable the OBD port when the alarm is active and add a "Move away from the car" chirp as stage 2
This is a little more involved to do right unless someone can point me to an alarm active signal
I realise it's trivial to do this with the stock remote amp signal but I would like to achieve something that is capable of behaving like the OEM alarm complete with internal sensor de-activate with the BMW fob. I have a plan in mind .......

Shock Sensor and motion sensor £32
Some of my time with a soldering iron £free
Peace of mind £priceless

Note I will not post any details of where my sensors are or suggest anything for people who may wish to perform the same install for obvious reasons

Well you need to work on the siren as it is pathetic. Doesnt matter how many sensors you have if it wont wake a sole!

Are you fitting the motion sensor in the roof area by the light? If so you may struggle with false alarms when rain water pools / runs off the roof. Something worth considering

Funny enough it can be coded to increase the volume.

I would suggest people to compare their cars with other 3 series. If yours is on low volume, get it geared up by BMW or a coder.

Or simply install 120db siren.

I don't get how fitting the legendary warning gongs from the sunken city of Leshp will help when the alarm fails to register someone sticking their upper torso through an open window

Yes an upgrade would be ideal but nailing sirens on isn't overly difficult

To plagiarise an old saying
I don't need to make my car the most secure in the world. It just needs to be more secure than yours

If a true professional wants your car they will take it
So all you really need to do is deter the scrotes who know that nicking a BMW is easy coz they seen it on YouTube innit bruv. If the alarm goes off and the nick-a-bimmer.com kit don't work they will foxtrot oscar likely as not

An alarm that we should have had fitted in the first place.

Sensors with a whispering siren are just as useless as a klaxon warning but dud sensors. If someone could come up with a kit to make both work, I'd pay for that.
