changing to winter tires myself for the 1st time..anything i should know?

so im thinking of doing this myself this year as i have new summer rims/tires (i want to take care of well) and i have all the tools to remove and replace the wheels...as well, my winters are already mounted on my old oem wheels which should make things easier...

is there anything i should know in terms of switching/rotation of the tires? whats the recommended pattern for rotation? and is there anything i should do (let out some air or something...) from the summer tires while they are being stored over winter on the summer rims?
also this may be a dumb question, but do i have to get the tires rebalanced every year or only if i were to take the actual wheel off the rim?

any help is greatly appreciated

No you don't need them rebalanced. No pressure change for storage is needed either. I suggest cleaning the current wheels before storage, and keep them stored inside if possible. I also would mark (left front, right rear, etc.) them so you can put them back where you want them to go in the spring. But if you have a staggered set with directional tires, they can only go back one correct way, so that would be unnecessary. It will also help you make the proper rotation if you want to do that, and are able to.
