Considering a 335i....Is anyone running high 10's or putting down 500+WHP no nitrous?
Hey guys, so i was considering purchasing a new car. I currently have a 12 sec flat srt6 and am ready to move on to something else. I have it narrowed down to a heavily modded c5/c6 vette or 335i. Now i must say, back when i bought the srt6 the 335i had just come out, and i almost bought one. I was really hoping to find that several years down the road you guys would have aftermarket snails on your cars and have a handful of members in the 10's with well over 500whp...but after some quick googeling and dragtime searching this does not seem to be the case....can i ask why?
I noticed that the turbos appear to be built to the manifolds, not exactly the most mod friendly configuration. What about fuel/engine management do you guys have full control over that? How strong is the bottom end? I was hoping to buy a 335i drop 10-12gs and have 500+whp no nitrous...guess that aint gonna happen huh? |

if your looking for that kind of power and willing to dump that kind of moola into it and you a good driver you could be the first in the 10's
without upgraded turbos i think the best run so far was set by old booster(11.2x @???) i donno the specs on the run but i know it was a 11.2x. Tune intake cat back 3 " downpipes upgraded FMIC and meth youll be looking @ around 430-450 whp with properly tuned n54 without upgraded snails witch is pretty good if you ask me and it aint ganna cost you anywhere near 12 g's.

put your car on a diet plan and it might just hit 10s. racing seats, light weight battery, strip down interior, take ac off, cf hood/roof/trunk/bbk blah blah blah, you might be able to shave 10~15 % off your vehicle which does wonder on track...
10 ~ 12g won't cut 10s, maybe 15~20g would be my guess because in order to achieve 10s, you will need major suspension upgrade as well...

Tune- $549 Intake-$139 Downpipes$700 FMIC$800-1000 Meth$300 Upgraded turbos $5000 LSD$1200 Drag wheels $900 install for everything $2000-2500 that list is excluding NO2 becuase he said without NO2 so add another $400 for an installed decent kit and on the high end it comes out to $12,288 or $12,688 and this is buying everything brand new. I dont think hell hit past $15 gs if he tried. You should hit 10's with that set up.

If you don't mind using a minor dry shot, 10's should be attainable with decent traction. My 11.33 at 132.77 mph was with a pretty crappy 60' and not even spraying in the lower gears. From what I hear, the drag strip that I usually go to just had a repaved launch pad. That alone would have worked wonders in lowering my 60's.
But as far as engine costs to get to this performance level: $579 JB3 $120 BMS Dual Cones $379 Meth Kit $200 Used 2.5" downpipes $100 Used .28 dryshot kit So a total of $1378 on the engine. And 17" K1s ($170 each), and Hoosiers ($180 each) Braille Battery $180 (was a liability that day, see note below, and hurts traction) And lastly, Seat removal: ($Free!) So either a sticky drag strip, or LSD would be your ticket to the 10's. 130mph trap speeds are definitely in the range of capability. The fact that my drag radials were almost worn down to the cords probably didn't help my efforts. When I ran those times, my battery had given out, so my engine was pretty heatsoaked as I had it running the entire time waiting in the long lines. So there is definitely more capability in there.

Like everyone already said if you are planning on dropping 12K into upgrades then you have an awesome shot in getting into the 10's if you are a excellent driver.

10s are definately achievable with DD setup. Turbo upgrades are just starting to trickle out. So far, turbo upgrades are available from EPL and TurboDynamics. There's also a shop down here in Florida (can't remember their name) that's offering a fully upgraded CHRA. All of the turbos are 500whp capable.
JPSimon's car makes ~430awhp on EPL's upgrade (damn impressive). One of the major issues guys are running into is traction so you're either going to need an LSD or plan on lightweighting an Xi.

Thanks for all the replies so far, i will check out some of the companies you guys mentioned...
Im not real familiar with the 335 fuel system, but isnt it very high pressure or something. Another words should i plan on larger injectors for the upgraded turbos like on other cars, or do you just bump up the pressure on these things? |

I say the vette would be a much better animal to mod with 10k. Wouldn't make as nice a daily driver but if your goal is sheer speed and numbers, there is no better vehicle than the corvette.

Ya I LOVE my 335 but if you want something that is fast as hell and you have 10 grand to dump into something go with the vette. It will be godly when your done vs ours have a ton of limitations right now and there is a lot of unknown. But if you want a really nice DD that you can make very fast but not godly fast then go with the BMW.

As stated, X amount of money will yield better bang for the buck on the vette than the 335i, no argument there. You have to look beyond sheer performance numbers to decide what it is you want.
I dont live at the race track so in my opinion you would have to convert the bmw into something of a racecar (rollcage, weight reduction, drag radials etc.) to actually see 10's, the vette you could do it in complete daily trim.

or just go to a race car builder that will put a gt30r on the car with custom manifolds, new fuel pump with fuel injectors back to the old style (not direct injection) and you could push 1000whp problem is most members try to have bolt ons here that use/reuse as many stock components as possible (for now at least)...oh, and you'd need an aftermarket DME/addon to manage your new fuel injection bye bye with stock direct injection at that point

Go with the corvette if you blow the motor its only 1,500 to replace it unlike 10k with the bmw and you will get alot more power easier in the vette. The sound comparisions between the two cars is unmatched the ls motors take the cake easily especially with a nasty cam in it.
