Unhappy E92 1997 320D Coupe Drivers side Window problem

I have a 2007 E92 320D Coupe with the following problem.
The drivers side window controls don't seem to work as I cannot lower or raise the windows with the switches; however the passenger side control does operate the passenger window. I can also lower the drivers window by unlocking the car with the remote fob and holding the button down; likewise for locking and raising the drivers window. The control illuminates and the mirror control works both sides. I have taken off the connector and made sure that the pins were all there, reconnected the connector to the switch panel but still no joy with the switches. I cannot believe that BOTH switches have failed at any time, any clues please?

I'd try replacing the the switch unit as both of the window switches are part of the same unit arent they?
