Need help!! Sticking rear brake caliper

Hi,

Meant to be driving up north tonight to see my dad for his 60th.
Fortunately stopped for food about 20 miles into an 160 mile journey and thought I could smell brakes. Been taking easy so checked all wheels and sure enough the rear passenger side rear was bloody hot!

Called out RAC to have a look, dude poked around a bit but decided it was the piston in the caliper as the pads were free.
Pissed off is not the word, dad's party is tomorrow night.
Now what's the chances of this being an easy fix and what are the chances of getting it done on a Saturday morning?

Another thing to note is that I have only had the car a month. The guy before me had the rear discs and pads replaced 8000 miles ago by BMW Canterbury. I would be tempted to call them but I am in Lincoln, bit of a trek. Would bmw be interested in this at all and offer any assistance.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

Best bet is to have a look yourself!

Only can be 2 things!

Piston or sliders!

Both should be an easy enough fix

Are you sure it's the caliper and not the handbrake mechanism?

I'd suggest the handbrake has seized and isn't releasing properly, or the rear shoes are disintegrating and the broken shoe lining is binding.

Had this on my e46, and something similar but not quite as bad on the wife's e93.

Not got that many tools unfortunately.
How would be best to check and what can I do to sort either problem?

Wheel off caliper off and release the slack on the handbrake cable, then take the disc off

YeAh it's the pads as there is little flecks of material round the pad on the disc. The RAC guy did check the handbrake shoes but it was definitely the pads.

I'm in Lincoln. There's soper BMW and Forrest motors Indy, might have to give them a call.

Cheers fella, probably going to be a garage job. Just hope they can get it done tomorrow morning. Shouldn't be too much of an issue if it's just a take apart and clean right?

Shouldn't be. Taking a caliper off is a 15 min job.

Just depends on what is fucked.

Pads, easy if they can get another set.

Caliper is a different story.

You'll just have to see tomorrow, speculation on here isn't going to help you much.

*hijack*

Think my hand break is sticking, anybody any idea of how to fix it or a guide... Occasionally squeals for about 10 yards then stops unless i put the hand break on again and off.

Update.
Turns out to be the pads not being installed correctly? They are 8k old!
Took it to a local garage and he basically took it apart and refitted it. Everything seems perfect, did the 160mile journey to dad's house no problems.
