19" Wheels and Problems w/Bending Wheels
How many of you running 19" wheels have routine experiences with wheel vibration due to front wheels being bent?
To clarify, I am not necessarily talking about bending them severly after hitting a real deep pot-hole, but I am speaknig of wheel run-out caused by hitting minor pot-holes, road bumps etc. This results in high speed vibration which can be felt in the steering wheel and cannot be balanced out because the wheel is outside of tolerance. |

The problem is less about the size of the wheel and more about the strength. An 18" cast rim will bend easier than a 19" forged one.

So I am curious to know if others running 19's (cast or forged) experience vibration problems due to wheel run-out. PS: a forged wheel is not necessarily stronger than a cast wheel. There are cast wheels that are as strong or stronger than forged. The big benefit to a forged wheel is weight reduction combined with strength. |

I have the same problem with my Miro 111 (235/35/19 fronts and 265/30/19 rears), except both rears are bent not the fronts. This causes the steering wheel to have a vibration at high speeds. Not sure how they got bent. One wheel is in perfect condition and the other has a small curb rash.

BUT it's a fair generalization that the best forged wheels in same sizes and spoke designs would be just as strong and maybe a bit more strong at less weight than its cast counter part, but the price would also reflect this. Top quality cast wheels: 19" 1000-2000 Top quality forged wheels: 19" $4,000 + With that said, I have seen plenty of forged expensive wheels crack, and even more cast wheels bend/crack. I think this perception has been created because there are just a lot more low end/quality cast wheels on the road, so you will hear about it more. |
