i ended up using my battery for ground wire. other places seemed to give me problems. battery directly to the postive side of the bolt.

Isn't positive on battery Red, which means it's Power, not Ground? Ground should be negative, or black.

under the trunk lining, to the bracket where the sat radio goes. gotta sand the paint off though. There's an existing bolt you can use.

General rule of thumb is to ground thw wire to any part that is UNpainted in the trunk, so just scrape away some paint. As for the power, I suggest you look into an aftermarket battery terminal, then you can add the new power wire and keep the existing one to the same terminal.
